Just received latest power bill, do not have a problem with the actual readings and the total bill however the account shows the three payments of £67 from the government grant.

But they charge vat on the total amount, surely they should deduct the 67 payments first then charge VAT on the balance?

It is a small amount 3x£67 at 5% it just grates that they give in one hand and take it back in the other, moving money between different departments.

Can you post a picture of the bill so we can see exactly how they've calculated it?

The suppliers do seem to have made the treatment of the £67 more complicated than it needed to be

Probbly under Government orders. I expect the £67 is not subject to VAT being a Government Grant.

Are you from scammers R us? smile sorry Paul not willing to put picture on here.

Top of bill shows credit of 3 x£67, below that are the calculations for the gas and Lx, all perfectly OK.

They add them all up, deduct the £201 to give a subtotal but then calculate the vat on the gas and lx amount without taking off the 201.

So am I paying vat on the 201?
