Where do you sit? I'd bet most people are in "profession". What do you think would get you into the middle?

I'm probably in the Ikigai centre, though 'wealth' would definitely be pushing it.

Everyone who sees value in this balance is less likely to see a need to keep up with the Jones. Thanks for sharing.

Definitely "Comfortable, but feeling of emptiness."
Like a lot of my colleagues I think.

I'm pretty sure I'm in the Ikigai category: I love doing what I'm paid for (I even do it as a hobby), and I'm good at it. Pretty sure the world needs what I do as well.

There are two particular threads on PH that prevent me from achieving true Ikigai.

Care to share what that might be out of interest?

Maybe I don't 'get it' but different aspects of my life fall into different areas?

Mind you, I'm crap at at rubiks cubes too.

I didn't know this even though I'm a bit of a fan of Japanese, been there a few times. Thanks for sharing.

Programming and electronics. Just love having something that I can hold in my hands that does something useful.

The equipment I've got at home actually beats what I have at work (especially for electronics). But work gives me real-life challenges on an international stage that I would never dream to do in my spare time.

Company i work for organises events based upon this very principle but then it is a Japanese company so hardly surprising.
There are a couple of books on the whole concept that are worth reading, if anyone can be bothered i'll dig out the titles and authors

Interesting - would you mind sharing the details of the events? Are they to explain the concept, or to help people find theirs?

Without knowing details, I recommend carefully adding two further threads to balance these particular two out.

To help people find theirs within our industry, which is dental.

I retired from my proper career and now do up houses with a mate.

Turns out it's great fun, we're both perfectionists so the output is good, it services the world's requirement for homes and when I'm not doing it for family and friends it pays too.

I guess I'm an itchyeye. biggrin
