Proof of age protocols
Discussion
Acceptable forms of ID to prove your age include a valid passport, a photo driving licence and a proof of age card such as the PASS card from the national Proof of Age Standards Scheme.
My daughter sent me a box of beer for my birthday. The delivery driver asked me for my year of birth. I asked why. She said it was to prove I'm over eighteen. I'm sixty nine.
But that was it. No passport, no driving licence, just my word.
It struck me as being a bit odd, bordering on surreal.

Amazon?
I worked for them for a short while. They are very Americanised with the whole I.D thing.
The app allows a 'clearly over 18' option but to allow this is must have a year of birth input. It kinda defeats the point but they are a stickler for the rules. Blame the process, not the driver.
It doesn't tell us what the item is, nor why it's asking for I.D either. So some people get pissed off if it's asking it for a potato peeler for an 82 year old women, we have to do what the app tells us.

I wasn't blaming the driver as I guessed she was following procedure. But what a weird set-up. Amazon has a big operation here, big enough to maybe operate a more localised system than the one they use in America.
We quite often will order a box of beer, or a bottle of wine from Amazon.I have no problem with them asking my year of birth (despite obviouslly being over 18 - a clue being the old looking face and white beard), although I get that some other people may wonder why the delivery driver can't just make an obvious judgement. I guess the issue is with people who may look much closer to 18, and needing to have a standardised system.
What really annoyed me was that for a (short) period of time, if you'd ordered a bottle of wine from Amazon maybe about a year ago, the poor delivery driver was instructed to ask for proof of your age and to take a photo of it. No way was I interested in having random delivery drivers, and the likes of Amazon having photos of sensitive documents such as driving licence, or passport.
I guess they quickly dropped the requirement probably due to a lot of people refusing their requests for photographing the proof of id.
