I'm going to assume there is a barrier to just entering the biggest horse race in the land .
You can't just buy a formula 1 car and rock up at the grand prix expecting an entry .
I think the OP is coming at this from a hypothetical angle in terms of the moral implications of entering a horse for a race that is well known for the regular equine fatalities that occur. You can't just buy a formula 1 car and rock up at the grand prix expecting an entry .
Could be wrong about that though. OP could you elaborate please?

Yes it has to be a certain age and having already competed in a number of similar races previously and a whole bunch of other requirements. You can't just buy a formula 1 car and rock up at the grand prix expecting an entry .
The winning prize is 500k

You used to be able to, before the FIA were conned by Bernie. So many entries there was pre-qualifying and pre-pre-qualifying.You can't just buy a formula 1 car and rock up at the grand prix expecting an entry .

To quote Charlie Brooker:
The Grand National, an event, which is to killing horses, like a giant horse killing machine is, to killing horses.
They fundamentally altered the fences for the 2013 running, the year after Brooker said that. That had a big impact, with no equine fatalities until the 2019 running. The Grand National, an event, which is to killing horses, like a giant horse killing machine is, to killing horses.
