Strange things from other forums you’ve seen
Discussion
I was thinking about a forum I was on years ago, a Ford focus owners club, now I know they tend to attract wierdos but I wondered what the strangest thing you’ve seen on other forums is?
For me, on the focus one, there was a guy who was hell bent against xenon headlights, he seemed to think that maybe having to replace a xenon bulb would bankrupt him. He eventually bought a Volvo c30 and did a long build thread about how he spent £1200 to remove the xenon’s, self levelling and washers to retrofit halogen headlamps.

Are you talking specifically Car related? There's been some very odd stuff on Mumsnet over the years,
Car wise, I very very vague but recall a thread here where a member had a Lotus Sunbeam and had it restored to the point where the actual panels of the vehicle body were separated, roof, doorskins, everything, as in the car literally "un stitched" and then rebuilt. It was an awesome build and again, I am very vague, not so much strange but more extreme.
also, again, very vague , about possibly a ford Focus owner who purchased a brand new Focus ST or RS and then went about paint correcting the vehicle as it has just rolled out of the showroom, along with other "corrections".

The mumsnet “penis beaker” thread was quite bizarre.

For cars, there was a poster on VXRnet that insisted that folding his rear seats down made the car lighter.
Sadly it’s been removed but you can see other people discussing it at https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/reduce-the-...

Was this not the Astra VRX Nurburgring edition? Spent weeks if not months correcting the paint?.

An infamous post on a Corsa forum:

It only carries 1 person, Me. It has no extra weight in the car, all glove compartments, cubby holes and the boot is empty. The rear exhaust may or may not add power. It has only ever run on Optimax, I know you get more boost out if this fuel on bigger engined cars but every little helps. The tyres are always inflated to 38 PSI to give extra grip and less tyre slouch. Often I put the rear seats flat, this reduces weight. (Like why you crawl flat across a frozen pond so as not to break the ice). I regularly drive with around £10 of fuel, again weight saving, and often I use engine cleaner in the fuel load to remove debris from the fuel injectors. The car is always clean improving aerodynamic progress. I have timed the 0 - 60 at 9.3 seconds, and this shaves a couple of seconds off the standard time. Hope this answers your question.
...
The rear seat thing, It is rare that I fold them down, but it has to be said that when folded they remove a bit of weight. Vertical seats exert more downward force because the energy is focused on a smaller surface area. When horizontal, the weight is spread and so is less per Centimetre squared.

Start here

There was guy in the States on one of the Lotus forums that was verbose in his efforts to remove the paint from his Elise to replace with a lighter (in weight) paint that would save something like 2 kilos. A lot of the narrative was highly supportive of his aim to to uphold Chapman's philosophy of just adding lightness. Having included photos of him doing the work, I was of a mind to suggest that laying off the cakes and pies for a few months would have the same effect for less effort and money.

Out of interest checked the MOT. FD08 SVE expired on 26 April 2019 following a fairly epic fail in 2017. Wonder if it's still out there.
The guy did something like 40 coats of wax?
I mock but I seem to recall he was a very well regarded and clearly successful detailer?

I remember a detailing thread on a Dyson. No idea if it was a wind up or not.
I remember that too - pretty sure it was but very funny. There was a guy on an Audi forum many years ago that tried to do a "port and polish" by sucking sand into the engine:
https://www.audiforums.com/forum/off-topic-5/hey-g...
In a similar vein some lunaric on a Mustang forum tried to "flush" his engine during an oil change which was a very entertaining thread:

Mums net is a rich source of amusement…. Like the one where a poster stated she had been turned on at a massage as the masseur was doing something that made her bits tingle…. She even provided a hand drawn picture as a visible reference at the request of others who couldn’t work out how it had happened.https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/mumsnet_classics/1875...

I remember a link to a football ( or bodybuilding??) forum ( posted here ages ago )
where a guy was discussing back door action on his girlfriend.
She agreed to it, but only after serving him the same dish with a strap-on, he was all for it,
caused a BIG discussion with his digital "mates".
Think they did it in the end but not sure.

I have detailed an electric guitar before now!It was my old one that I was giving away to someone, so I polished and waxed it with my DA polisher and car products. Came up like new.
Matelot writes story of his service on the internet. Despite being an excellent set of material doesn't want to write a book about it for fear of his Mum finding out he scuttled a couple of Argentine street workers up the back passage. Married into Titled gentry.

Best of Mumsnet (slightly beats Penis Beaker as I have had chance to use this many times with colleuges who say they are going to Centre Parks......strange about 50% of them blush).
