We are here for a good time, not a long time.

Apart from the obvious things, such as going on holiday, etc.

What makes you happy on a day to day basis?

Sitting out on my decking having breakfast waiting for rush hour to end before getting into my car and driving through the country lanes to work knowing i am only working 2 days this week....might do 3 nxt week.

Family etc are too obvious so its the little things that put a smile on my face..

Simialr to above. get up sat morning, walk into town for a coffee and pasty with my kids. Quick pop in to a few shops for a look at all sorts of stuff, then walk back home. 45 mins each way plus some time at one of the filthy tables just talking to them about random crap. Makes my working week palatable.

And heavy rock music. I like git-tars.

5:01PM on a Friday knowing I have the whole of the weekend ahead of me.

That feeling after cleaning the house/car when it is perfect and utterly spotless. The drive immediately afterwards on a warm evening with the window down.

Listening to the 80s/90s music from my youth and having a massive nostalgia session.

After much soul searching I've realised I am an absolute simpleton.

Making things makes me happy. That could be expanded to "creating things or making existing things work better".

I have lots of happy memories, but a common thread through the vast majority of them was an ability to contribute in a positive way to making something or fixing something. At home I like making stuff. At work I am best when given something process or function which isn't working and remedying that.

Going for a ride on my motorbike then coming home and having a different kind of ride is a good day in my book.

Food and cooking.

Today? The sunshine.

Tomorrow? Let’s see.

I’m not being flippant. I’m not very good at switching off. That has worked well for me in work. But my happiest times that don’t include family are probably the most dumb as nuts stupid movies I can find. The stupider the better.

That’s not the answer you’re looking for.

What makes me happy is seeing family do well and any moment where I feel released from responsibility rather carrying than the omnipresent weight that I put on myself.

I’m happy to say I’ve too many answers to this question. Many things make me happy but not at every moment of every day.

Sitting down knowing that I have done everything I've needed to and the rest of the day is mine to waste as I see fit.

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.

But also, playing tennis on a sunny afternoon (it's not just about tennis but about the social aspect), going for a drive in a car that doesn't cosset you from the road conditions, doing work that you love and not having to wake up before 9am.

I like the question because I've been watching a couple of TV series (James May for instance) on "dolce vita" and started wondering what the British equivalent is. Perhaps it's doing everything that I currently do but driving about in an Aston Martin?

I am disappointed in myself that I didn't immediately think of this when I saw this thread.

Loads of things, here are a few.

Setting off on a holiday and then coming home to your own bed.

Warm sunny days with the buzz of bees and the chirping of the birds, especially Curlews.

Freshly laid snow with no footprints and stillness all around.

Smell of fresh coffee.

Daily Peanuts cartoons on my desk calendar.

Fast jets flying low through the village and across the hills.

Stopping for a quick cuddle with my wife.

Good food.

Getting out early for a dog walk, either a nice summer morning or a lovely cold frosty morning, me, the dogs and my headphones, love it.

When the wife gives me a kiss and says that I still give her a warm fuzzy feeling.
