Coming off Facebook- downloading images etc
Discussion
I deleted my account.
Used the dowoad option to retrieve all photos that might be on there.
No regrets.
Hadn't used it for many years, I joined up for a specific group back in 2009 I think.
Accumulated friends, shared stuff etc. then found myself checking it frequently... thought what the f
k am I doing this for - looking at people's bulls
t - then deleted the app... about 8 years later deleted the account
.
I might join up again for specific interest groups (again!) that could be useful, but to be honest, would rather not have to. If I did it would be strictly for that... nah sod it, no chance.

I signed up for FB only because my now sister-in-law insisted on using FB as an invite for my brothers 21st birthday.
I now use it for caving and mine exploring groups and marketplace which is a useful source of cheap stuff.
I've never post. It didn't take me long to block my sister-in-law after seeing all the cack she posts. Currently I have 1,135 friend requests which I've never accepted and when people ask, I just tell them I don't like them!

How does it work downloading all your posted images first?
Any regrets?
I did this when I deleted my Facebook years ago. All the data went into it's own folder. How does it work downloading all your posted images first?
Any regrets?
Never looked at it, didn't bother copying it across when I changed laptop a few years later.

They’ll still have copies of your photos on their servers I bet.
There’s no escape.
More than this they actually own the copyright to the photos in perpetuity. If you sold a picture/it went viral they have the right to any monies earned from that picture, they can also use it in any way that they choose. There’s no escape.

Deleted my FB a few years back. Downloaded everything to my NAS (I started the account back in 2008 so there was quite a lot of fun stuff from old phones that I'd forgotten about, so definitely worth it).How does it work downloading all your posted images first?
Any regrets?
Regrets? Not one

No. Not really.
Facebook have a royalty-free licence to any media you post, but they don't own the copyright.
The last time I looked into this - admittedly a while ago - this was the case, it may well have changed in the time since.Facebook have a royalty-free licence to any media you post, but they don't own the copyright.

Specifically, when you share, post or upload content that is covered by intellectual property rights on or in connection with our Products, you grant us a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free and worldwide licence to host, use, distribute, modify, run, copy, publicly perform or display, translate and create derivative works of your content (consistent with your privacy and application settings). This means, for example, that if you share a photo on Facebook, you give us permission to store, copy and share it with others (again, consistent with your settings) such as Meta Products or service providers that support those products and services. This licence will end when your content is deleted from our systems.

But of course everyone got their knickers in a twist about it.

I'm noticing more and more that my feed is purely suggested posts and ads.
Hardly anyone actually posts anything these days like they used to. Of my 400+ 'friends' 1 maybe 2 actual posts per day.
Instagram however is alive and kicking. Stories in particular seem to be a great place for people to throw up some disposable / fun content.

Yeh I agree, I post a lot more to Instagram these days than FB. Hardly anyone actually posts anything these days like they used to. Of my 400+ 'friends' 1 maybe 2 actual posts per day.
