Their bot is crap. Clearly implemented before it’s been taught.
You also gave information it didn’t need to know.
“We are already….” is irrelevant.
You want to find out more about house and contents cover.

No, nothing is irrelevant, the service should be able to understand what the customer is asking, regardless. We are not here to adjust our language for it to understand, it needs to understand us.

Did I give it too much info in one go? Being an existing customer may be important to some companies but confusing to bots. When dealing with people, I try to be succinct and tell them as much as I can in as few words as possible. If I waffle they lose interest.

That is actually the most helpful AI bot, it's connected you to a real person after one message

Agreed..

Maybe be best just to talk gobbledygook until it offers to connect you to a human.

Maybe someone will test these chat bots and come up with key phrases that automatically get you an offer of an agent!

Good idea for a website. AIBothack.com etc..

'I'm thinking of leaving'
'What is the meaning of life?'
'I want to kill puppies'

Only because it thought I was leaving.

Right solution, wrong reasoning.

You can kind of see the flawed logic that made it reach that conclusion.

This. The question was in plain English and the "AI" should have been able to work it out. How did it come to the conclusion someone was trying to leave?

Probably not AI, at least not the modern Chat GPT type, either that or they have not trained it on relevant data, sentiment and intents.
The vast majority of these chat bots are still not enabled with proper language models, this is likely a standard one and you found a combination of words it didn't understand so it offered an escape. They are essentially just a big pile of IF/THEN loops.

At least it didn’t go rogue and deploy a drone to launch a missile at your house. Good job really, as it sounds like you don’t have any house or contents insurance at the moment, you need to sort that Dicky.

Oh, I don't know, I've had the same conversation with Kenneth from India smile

You're confusing AI with a predefined set of responses with an exit to customer services.

Thanks, ws. Our existing insurance company are abandoning private home and contents insurance and gave us a month's notice. They were the only firm we could find to take us on after an expensive underfloor leak years ago. Our other peculiarity is we live in an ordinary house with an ordinary car each but have an expensive watch each each and my wife has a nice piece of jewellery. All three exceed the automatically included threshold. None of the mainstream insurers will touch us. Presumably, to saisfy insurers, we should have possessions in proportion to our lifestyle.

No one else in the country has this problem.

Really? Surely not. It can't be that unusual.

Too much for bots.

It refers to itself as a bot.

Yes, okay, the technology is beginning to leave me behind.

a side effect of generative AI and these new MLM things is that everything that isn't that will seem like utter ste by comparison. In other words, all technology.

Try having that conversation with an Asian call centre. I find those harder to communicate with than a dumb AI messaging system.

NOT a racist comment - a cultural observation.

I expect - in simple terms, because the OP said :
"We currently have X with you but we want Y". And the AI basically concluded : Therefore you will leave to obtain Y elsewhere.

Very dumb conclusion, particularly when they sell Y anyway.

Maybe the answer would have been different if the OP had said "and we want to add......" rather than "but"?

This is clearly a chat bot which has absolutely zero artificial intelligence.

A similar half witted system was used by Nationl Rail on their train times enquiry website until recently. If I wanted to go to London, I typed in Newbury, which it recognised, and Paddington, which it didn't. I had to enter London Paddngton. There wasn't even a choice of the Paddingtons. I mean, there must be as many as one.
