Any Art Deco Furniture Gurus? What’s this table?
Discussion
I didn’t really know on which forum to pose this question but here seems a good start.
So, I bought this table exactly 25 years in a Central Glasgow antiques shop. We bought it because we’d moved into a very 1930s house and were buying Art Deco furniture to suit.
I’ve always wondered what this table was actually for and how much it might be worth now. I have personally never seen another one like it. This dealer used to make regular trips to Denmark and sold quite a lot of Danish furniture, if that helps at all?
The wood appears to be a birds-eye maple.
The strange thing is it has four pull out shelves; two in each tier at opposites to each other, as per the photos. These have glass protective inserts in each and the top has also always had a thick, protective glass top.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

I’d be interested if you’re selling.
It’s nice quality. The handles (I can’t see them at all well) could be bone, ivory or plastic. If ivory would benefit from an exemption now.
They look like some kind of early pink plastic. Not Bakelite but definitely not ivory either. It’s nice quality. The handles (I can’t see them at all well) could be bone, ivory or plastic. If ivory would benefit from an exemption now.

Thanks. Yes, I’d seen some of those before when I tried to research it. That other three tiered one near the beginning is similar but it does have or explain this strange complexity of these pull out shelves on mine. https://lens.google.com/search?ep=gisbubb&hl=e...

It seems like so much precise extra effort must have gone into making those four shelves?

Deco coffee table with pull out slides/shelves
Yes, that’s sort of the most obvious use….But, it seems a bit ‘elaborate’ and a bit of a ‘performance’ for just a coffee table…..??? Here’s a similar deco one.
