Just finished reading H.G. Wells’ ‘The Time Machine’.

Just wondered whether if time travel was possible (don’t want the thread to turn into possibilities or otherwise, hence me posting in the lounge rather than the science forum), where would you go, what date, and why?

Well I wouldn't go back and kill Hitler when he was a baby, because then nobody would have heard of Hitler and I'd be arrested for killing a random baby.

I'd go back to when i was about 7 or 8 and tell my much younger self to think every decision through properly, be it financial, physical or mental. However, i would warn my much younger self that if i still started smoking, i would come back and kick myself inside out

I wish I had spent my money much more wisely. when I think about my savings compared to what I have earned the last 12 years I really should have a lot more money in the bank.

Made me think how odd it must have been at the registrars in the late 1800s....

"What are you going to call this baby?"

"Adolf Hitler"

"Are you having a laugh!"

hehe

Not religious at all but would go back to the time of the baby Jesus and see what the crack was that led to the story that so many people believe. I.e. was there an inspiration or was it completely made up from nothing.

Time of building the pyramids to see what the Aliens who built them look like.

Go back and tell my 18 year old self to worry less about succeeding and concentrate more on enjoyment. Pack a rucksack and hitchhike around the globe.

Yup, and the girls who were interested but I was too daft to pick up all the signals!

Are we allowed to have knowledge of the future?

If so, anywhere in 1960 at 18 years old, win a few million because I know sports results etc.... and then have an absolute blast for three decades.

If not, then mission control, 20th July, 1969. (Unless I'm allowed to be Neil Armstrong, in which case, the Sea of Tranquility, 20th July, 1969).

I'd go see a dinosaur and all the crazy giant beasties that used to live on earth.

I would possibly stay inside my super safe, unbreakable time travel pod though, given the size of some of the creepy crawlies back then... laugh

No I wouldn't exist, plus many many many other people.

You change a major part of history then many people wouldn't have met and had babies together...

What time travel stories always ignore is that we are not just moving through time, we are moving (very quickly) through space as the solar system is whizzing around the Milky Way and the Milky Way is moving through the universe too. If you went back in time for years you would find yourself in deep space.

Ignoring that little problem…I would probably go back to a week last Tuesday. I did the laundry then we watched a film. We won’t see the likes of those days again…
