Hi All,

I’m after a pair of good quality tan brogue boots. Lace up.

Seem Loake and the like but I was conscious that sometimes these brands fall off a bit in terms of quality.

Anyone have a view on a pair that will last a good while.

Anything that lasts will have a bit of a breaking in period. Cheaney and Tricker have what you want if you're after the full Mr Men look.

I wouldn't rule out ones with elastic sides - much less faff to get on and sit better under trousers especially if the bottoms are narrow

They've gone up in price a fair bit - £400-600

Yeah, possibly Joseph Cheaney. Nice quality shoes and boots.

If you're around in London, they have an outlet store at the O2, my mrs ended up with two great pairs with a fantastic discount. smile

I've a pair of loake boots and am very happy with the quality, I've had them 2-3 years now (but admittedly don't wear them a lot.)

crockett and jones. I think I will treat myself to a pair this year after eyeing them up for about 15y!

I dont have any C&J boots myself but wife does have Chelsea boots which were resoled in dainite (some sort of rubber) a few years ago and came back looking fantastic. A lot of the boots come with leather soles which can be resoled into dainite (at a cost) at purchase time but she opted to wear hers until they actually needed to be resolved. Dainite will last longer that leather I think

If you want high quality boots, I would recommend spending some time on Jermyn Street, London. Quite a number of stores stock excellent boots with brogueing.

Take a look on herringshoes.co.uk - they have all the Northampton makers & more, some of them doing Herring-badged models.

Loake quality is fine. I have a pair of their Bedale boots which ar fine.

As another poster suggested they do need some breaking-in time.

Good boots.

Blimey, do people still wear this kind of thing?

I’ve got one pair of Loakes and 4 pairs of Trickers, the Trickers take more breaking in (and obviously are more expensive) but are way better quality and feel like they will last a life time.

I can recommend both Trickers and Crockett and Jones for comfort and build quality.

The advantage of the C&J boots is that that employ speed hooks as well as eyelets which make lacing a lot quicker.

I suggest a trip to Jermyn Street and visit both Trickers and Crockett and Jones. The shops are only feet apart.

OP - you didn't mention a budget, and if the thought of spending £300+ on a pair of boots is a bit on the high side, then I can recommend Lanx:

https://lanxshoes.com/

Very well made, and very comfortable.

Any thoughts on how they fit? I need a set of traditional brown brogues for my kilt and tweeds and looking for something comfortable that will last. Hopefully a reasonably wide fitting?

Previous pair were worn to perfection and felt like an old pair of slippers but are sitting somewhere in Schiphol airport courtesy of some lost Lufthansa luggage.

I have Trickers, Loake and Grenson brogue boots

The Trickers are the Derby boot and are the best pair

The Grenson Boots have speed hooks and are I would say superior to the Loake, just. They are not their UK made boot.

The Loakes are still good boots, but I doubt I would buy again after a Tricker purchase.

I did look at Cheaney, but that soon stopped when I viewed the price!

Cheaney are decent. You can send them back for resoling for about £100.

What I do it get a cobbler to put some rubber not he sole which makes it last a lot longer. Leather soles are risky in the rain.
