I recall that in some comics when I was young (admittedly a while ago now) there were adverts for X Ray specs. Even back then I was sceptical enough to think it must be bks, but did anyone on here take the plunge? What did you get?

I always wondered how they could advertise things that clearly couldn’t work.

There were other adverts for similarly dodgy products but I can’t recall them now. Anyone else remember?

Bloody hell that brings back memories! Back pages of Whizzer and Chips used to advertise them, and various other novelty /joke/miracle products.

I really really wanted a pair so that I could see what Katrina Payton looked like with no clothes on : cloud9:

Yes, I had a pair. From memory they were from Bazooka Joe bubble gum.

I was fully expecting to see naked people. I didn't. They were cardboard with what seemed to be a part of a feather in the eye holes - so that you saw a sort of ghosting/double image.

An extremely disappointing episode.

I can remember those. Like the OP, I never sent off my postal order for £2.49 or whatever because I also thought "hang on, that can't be real, can it?".

I had some - can't remember if I bought them or they were free with a comic though!

A company I used to work for had some - essentially.

It was a very very expensive thermal imager bought for an experiment. Once the experiment was finished it became redundant.

As bored scientists and engineers the camera was dug out one lunch time to have a play. Turns out it could see through clothes to a degree.

However, of more use, it became the perfect tool for finding out who had farted as it was sensitive to detect the thermal bloom eminating from the culprits trousers.

We were also able to confirm the experiment that if you want to leave a fart behind the most effective way is to crab walk sideways.

Walking fwds traps it in turbulent vortices that hold the smell.

It's nice to be recognised for one's scientific achievements. Thanks.

Now that is the perfect scientific conclusion!

What's the best way to conceal a fart? Walk like a crab
Wouldn't everyone know that you've farted by the way you're walking? Yes
So you'd need a group of people walking like crabs? Yes
Science!

Think about the wider applications though. Always leave a lift sideways wink

I recall the " Be Inches Taller " ad, sort of wedge things you put in your
winklepickers [ google it ] to impress your lumber.
