Watched a short clip from US tennis coverage where they were discussing a survey with Andy Roddick. American club tennis players had been asked whether they could win a game against a pro. Apparently nearly 50% of over 55s thought they could.

Andy Roddick was gobsmacked. He didn’t think he could take a game off Djokovic today!

Why are so many people delusional and divorced from reality?

The Dunning Kruger effect is quite prevalent when you look, most blokes think they are great drivers despite what everyone else tells them. Most people think they are way better at cooking than they really are. And so on and so forth...

Presumably these are the same people who reckoned that could beat a bear in a fight from another survey.

Does seem to be something about the American male and a deluded amount of confidence.

Perhaps my favourite example of this.

I don't know whether to be more alarmed that 24% don't think they could beat up a rat or that 22% actually think they could beat up a fking Chimpanzee.

What I say in a survey and what I really think are totally different.

It's weird that the OP chose the over 55 stat, they're the reasonable ones smile 82% of the '18 to 24' group thought they could win a game.

Rats are vicious things. Geese are pretty mean and strong as well.

If I played for a top premiere league team I'd fully expect to score 12-15 goals a season.

Totally confident I would.

I'm 58 and 130kg. Would use my size to massive advantage.

Not dissimilar to Ehrling Haaland in a way, none of this tippy tappy nonsense. Direct, no nonsense stuff.

Depends on the Chimpanzee.

Reckon I'd put up a good fight against a 20kg one, an 80kg one, not so much.

A season ? I’m a similar age and weight to you and I’d be looking to score that tally every game , and I’d do it for free as I don’t really need the 6 figure weekly salary .
I really hope there’s no local premiership managers browsing this thread , as I really don’t have the time to deal with them at the door in between plastering walls !

I have an 18yr old that works for me. He genuinely believes he could knock mike tyson out among other heavyweight legends.

I am in the building trade and there is a genuine belief that unskilled labour should be around 120-150 a day and skilled should be 200-350 a day and thats working for someone else doing domestic work. So no wonder theres no tradesman and no wonder the tradesman out there cant get any staff, they do not grasp the general public simply wont pay it, its just a case of thats what we want and if we dont get then we wont work.

I'd pay to see the 15 in total who said yes to lion be thrown in a ring with one all at once (just to make it fairer)

How much does the average cat weigh? Less than 10 kg? Most humans weigh a lot more. Cats are vicious and defeating one would likely involve a lot of pain and plenty of scratches but as long as the human doesn’t hold back they should be able to kill one.

I saw a clip about chimps the other day. New female keeper at a zoo. She had to clear out the bowls after the chimps had eaten. Keepers had to wait until the chimps had moved to the back of the cage before going in. Not long after she started she was about to go into the cage when another keeper screamed at her to stop. One of the chimps was hiding close to the door.

I wouldn’t mess with a grown chimp.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with a young chap (I'd guess 15/16), who I got chatting to on the bus back down Borrowdale after a fell race. We were talking about running and he (so far as I could tell genuinely) believed that he could run from Keswick to London in 24 hours. I didn't want to labour the point as there was a good possibility that he was either taking the piss or not quite playing with a full deck, but I had to point out that Keswick to London was about 300 miles and so you'd have to be basically running Olympic marathon pace. Non-stop for 24 hours. Yet he still fancied his chances. Gotta love the confidence of youth I guess.

That's all kinds of batst in one chart.

How on earth would you even fight an eagle? And what's a goose going to do to you to finish you off? Peck your fking knees?

I went to a talk from a primatologist a few years back. He'd spent months in the jungle studying primates at close quarters.

He said if he had a choice between being shut in a cage with either a leopard or a chimp he'd take the leopard every time.

I note that swans are omitted from the list. Presumably because everyone knows very well that a swan will break your arm as soon as look at you.
