In the early days of the Humer Unbeam thread I drove to the Brecons to photograph some derelict petrol pumps. Having posted the pics on the thread I sent copies to the pump manufacturer, Gilbarco Veeder-Root, in Greensboro, North Carolina, thinking pictures of their products - derelict but surviving - in a remote part of Wales would amuse them and might feature in their in-house magazine, if they had one.

Other than an acknowledgement, they didn't express any interest. That was 2015. This arrived this morning:

Things take a while to filter through at G V-R. They've decided I'm a petrol retailer.

"Blanche, do you remember that letter we got from that Limey, with the photos of our old petrol pumps?"

"I think so Elmer, they were in Wales, England, weren't they?"

That's right, I was gonna run them in the company magazine"

"Why didn't you?"

"Well, the story got spiked 'cos we ran that piece on that fella in the Appalachians, Cletus, who was identifying as one of our oil dispensers. I think I'll send him a note, just to let him know we ain't forgotten him."

"Elmer, you're such a kind human"

"I know, Blanche."

Ex-Gilbarmy man here. Lived and worked in Greensboro several times on product development projects.
When I left the UK the 10k+ picture and slide documentation of the history of the company and its products we're mostly dumped.
Sad but for most companies it's a waste of space and a cost.
I still have a VHS copy of a corporate video we shot in the 80s. I'll bet they don't.
Well I managed to get my ugly mug in it a couple of times. smile

Thanks for posting that, paul. I'm sorry G V-R trashed their history but your post made my day. You never know where threads are going to go. It's hardly started, but I'm happy with this one so far.
