Accusation of theft?
Discussion
Went to buy an item today, low value(£4) two in a box. Had a look at the item which was what I wanted and handed back to sales assistant.
Salesman then turns to me and asks in a patronising voice "where is the other one sir".
He then proceeds to find the other item at the bottom of the box.
Am I right to be annoyed?

Fair enough, maybe I was being overly sensitive. There is no other side of the story, I am not a shoplifter and had just spent £100 in the store a minute prior to this.
Was it the same person who you made the transaction with, seems strange to spend £100 then go back and spend £4.Not doubting you, just strange……..
The salesman answered his own question by finding the item himself. A polite person might have said, 'My apologies, here it is'.
You soon get to realise the world is full of people who will jump to the most dramatic possibility as soon as anything is out of the ordinary. Just live with it and get over it; its their problem, not yours.

Are you referring to the OP or the sales assistant here?Given the amount of shoplifting that seems to be prevalent across the high streets of the country, I'm surprised that shops still allow customers to handle the goods. I can see us returning to the "all items are behind the counter, ask an assistant to fetch them for you" model in a few years.

No, get over it.
This.Bought a meal deal from WH Smiths at Birmingham station recently. First self service till packed up halfway thru. Moved to till next to it and paid. As I left the shop, security pounced and told me I hadn't completed the transaction and had left without paying. Just explained what had occurred and I still had the receipt in my hand. Many apologies, no harm done.

Yes, please contact the Daily Mail as a matter of urgency. Salesman then turns to me and asks in a patronising voice "where is the other one sir".

Start practising your best compo face and have a quick check on Zoopla for an up-to-date estimate of your house value.
I once, many years ago when I still lived at home, popped into my local village shop on my way home from work to buy a few groceries. After paying for my items the shopkeeper then accused me of shoplifting earlier that day. I was shocked at the accusation and calmly told him I hadn’t been anywhere near his shop earlier that day. He was adamant that I had stole from him and he wasn’t willing to concede that he might have got the wrong person. He then started shouting at me and telling me I am barred from his shop. For a couple of seconds I saw red and was about to tip the nearest display shelf all over the floor. I didn’t but what I did do was go home and tell my mum who went and gave him a piece of her mind
