I've been watching a Tag Heuer connected watch for a few weeks. It doesn't matter what the item though.

Each time it has failed to reach the reserve and been relisted. Doesn't that cost the vendor each time?

Automated relisting is free on auctions.

I did wonder. Because otherwise the listing fees would soon make it unviable.

So you can set an unrealistic reserve and the listing will just be free after the first fees? Just keep relisting?

It's automatic, and can be quite handy if you have something a bit niche - for example my wife is selling a series of craft machinery parts, where it's not a big market but if someone particularly wants that part (mostly die cuts for making greetings cards), it can be worth a few tens of pounds. So, she just leaves the auctions running and auto-re-listing, and eventually someone will snap it up.

Only annoyance is that eBay do regular offers of 80% off sales fees (which, at 10%, can be quite steep on an expensive item). But those discounts only apply to the initial auction, and not to re-listings of the same thing.
