Hi,

Mrs 2btoo needs to have her engagement and wedding rings resized. Both are platinum.

We're fairly close to Birmingham and it's therefore occurred to me that we could have a trip to the jewellery quarter there and find someone who can do this for us. Snag is that we've never been there before and there's only so much that Prof. Google can tell us.

Therefore what advice would the good folks of PH offer? Are there any shops there which you'd recommend, how much should we look at paying, where should we avoid? All suggestions welcome - thanks!

I used diamond dealer direct for mrs TC engagement ring just before covid and then once she said yes we both went and chose the wedding band to suit it along with a few other sparkly items.

Was a recommendation from a mate who had trawled up and down them all looking for the best deal being one of the tightest yorkshire men i know, (so tight he took his then to be mrs to choose her own 'surprise' ring so it wasn't a waste of diesel going there and back again)

Couldn't fault them for service, very friendly and had loads of time for us, especially when i went to choose the engagement ring as me and my dad knew about as much as del boy does about diamonds when we went in there rofl

Know they do resizing as had to have the engagement ring upped a size as it was a guess being an actual surprise proposal in New York.

I took my platinum wedding ring to Fraser Hart in Edinburgh to get it resized in November. I got it reduced 1 size. They sent it away. I collected it about 2 weeks later. Cost was £110. Cant even see the join. It also came back polished like new again.

When we bought my wifes engagement ring we went to the Glasgow Jewellery precinct. (Argyle Arcade). Still bought from Fraser Hart. The ring was sized for free. Cantcremembrr if it was up or down sizes. The shop assistant took the ring to another little master jeweller type place tucked away at the end of the row of shops and was done in about an hour.

In Birmingham there will be a master shop that all the others go to. Find that and you will be sorted that day most likely.

Thanks TC7. Was 'Diamond Dealer Direct' the shop - i.e this one?

Bicknells! They have resized and or reset all my wife’s wedding and diamond rings and my late mother’s wedding and diamond rings. They will also clean and polish whatever they have made for life. They have jewellers on site. Other people send offsite. Usually possible to park right outside. Their security guard will keep an eye on it for you!

My wife manages a jewellers and potentially has a contact in Birmingham jewellery quarter. Will be in her emails at work so don’t have it right now.

Her place has a full workshop and could do it but we’re way up in Yorkshire.

We use Marlows, they do their own adjustments and re polishing, when we have we’ve phoned ahead, dropped the ring(s) off gone for lunch at Purnells then picked the rings up on the way home.

When my daughter wanted to have her engagement ring made she went to one of the smaller “one man band” shops and had excellent service too.

I think you could pretty much walk into any of the actual jewellers (not the studios/galleries) and they have their own jewellers on site, but they may not be able to do it there and then.

We use Platinum jewellers on Vyse Street. They’ve resized rings for my wife in the past. Great people to deal with.

I can recommend The Rolling Mill if you want a bite to eat whilst you're there.
