I need a bag for work trips and weekend trips, only two days at a time. I was thinking a smart duffel of some sort but open to suggestions. What do you recommend?

I was looking at this -

Bellroy are very good quality.
I have had this bag since 2019
It's still going strong after many uses.

If you want a premium offering that is genuinely made in the UK (Carlisle to be precise):

If you want fabric then Herschel do a wide selection of styles and colours - starting at about £50 in a sale.

If you want leather, don't discount TK Maxx - I bought this leather holdall from there before Christmas for £85

A couple of thoughts from me:

1. Do you need to carry a laptop?

2. Is the bag needed for flights? That is, do you want to use it for carry on luggage as opposed to hold luggage?

Thanks

I would add 3) do you expect to have to walk any distance with it? I find on foreign trips or even London that I end up walking a bit with a bag - and I need a rucksack if possible.

I regularly do two night trips - laptop and clothes basically.
I have
- an old Patagonia courier bag - perfect overnight.
- a Lowe Alpine Flight rucksack which meets overhead locker rules for a couple of days. The one I use most.
- A small Eastpak Transverse which is for anything longer - I can do a week with it.

I have one of these for short trips

Cat fit my laptop in it if it’s a work trip

Someone mentioned rucksacks above. Think about what you will be wearing when you use it before you go down that route. Particularly if during work days you wear suits and overcoats. Anything with a structured shoulder in it shouldn’t be used with a rucksack as it will ruin it.

I do but I have rucksack as well which I will use for the day for laptop and stuff, the other bag will be for clothes etc

Won’t be used for flights, this is for work in London and other places.

Longchamp Le Pliage is smart enough to take anywhere, and the bag folds up when not in use.

Clearly a bag for a woman though

As above - cool and Steve McQueenssque holdalls are all very very, to go from house to car boot, to accommodation

Any distance to carry them is a PITA.
I have one, had it 30 years and nicely patina’d but I’d not use it for travelling around

Really nice stuff that looks the part and will last (though £440 for a toilet bag is a bit OTT).

I've just ordered a backpack as a laptop bag, as my wife has requisitioned my current laptop backpack after I loaned it to her. Won't make that mistake again.

I've used it as carry-on and a bag for overnight stays before; I'd thoroughly recommend one.

However, as your requirements are a little different:

Might suit.

Bit pricey but if you often carry a suit/blazer with you, the below is nice:

They do another version with shoe carrier compartments :

Over 30 years of international business travel here...

Duffle bag works only if balanced by a briefcase. Try carrying a single full shopping bag 200 metres. You'll be swapping it hand to hand.

Also, avoid any that have only two loop handles. Like a toolbag, for comfort it needs a leather wrap around both handles.

If that doesn't work for you, then look at rolling bags (noisy and useless outside of an airport's smooth floors) or backpacks.

ETA My current travel bag is a Filson medium duffle paired with a 24 hour briefcase.

I’ve got one of these for general use when travelling, it seems pretty well made.
