Anyone know of a retailer in the UK that sells decent quality socks? I'm talking boggo length, non-crazy design socks to wear with jeans or trousers or whatever that don't hole or wear through in no time?

I'm getting a little pissed off with how st all my socks are. DarnTough and the other tough manufacturers don't seem to sell here.

Anyone got a recommendation?

Expensive though. Personally I buy the M+S Merino sock £18 for 3 pairs.

Trim your toenails regularly.
Go to TK Maxx and get Pringle bamboo socks. 3 pr for £8. Dope!
But leave some behind for my next visit.

I assume you are a larger gentleman? How do socks wear out in no time from normal use?

I had some socks for years and years, wife binned em

Subsequent replacements have been awful

I did buy some fancy bamboo ones in asda and they lasted a bit longer

Now I just buy generic black ones so I don’t have to Chuck pairs away, a pool of socks if you like

My wife buys socks from places like white stuff reduced from 30 to 15 and they can last sometimes upto 5 uses

Have an elderly Da who wanted decent socks as his circulation is no longer the best and his feet get cold. Merino wool.

Would agree with the Darn Tough recommendation but you don't have to go name brand.

I stocked up on wool socks a few years ago. It's a bit embarrassing that I'm drip feeding them to him as Christmas presents because I finally found something he wants and needs rather than buying something for the sake of it smile. Also likes a long sleeve polo and I've a few of them in the wardrobe waiting to be given.

I got some free Dewalt work socks with the purchase of some Dewalt boots from Screwfix, and they are great. Much comfier than the generic black sports socks that I usually get from the supermarket.

They sell the same ones at B&Q too, as below

Once upon a time I got fed up of dealing with different sock colours. Threw out every pair I owned and filled the sock drawer with black socks. No need to worry about mismatched pairs in the washing machine.

Now as a married man with a wife who has standards but doesn't have a clue about how to be tidy my sock drawer is organised from left to right. Blue, beige, grey, black, then her cluster fk of a mess. Yes she bargained her way into using my sock drawer lol. At least her feet are tiny so her socks don't take up too much room.

I find the bamboo ones great, I even wear them in my work boots as I dont like a heavy sock that make my feet sweat.

This.
Wearing a merino pair now for lounging around the house.
My go to socks for autumn /winter as they warm and comfy.

Edit: I buy them at Cotswold outdoors when they come up on sale.

I'm not large and my socks wear out very quickly, it's not a problem because I only need to wear socks for 4 months a year.
I like suede shoes, I can wear a hole through them with my big toes in under 6 months.
Odd shaped feet, I guess!

Big fan of Bridgedale socks, I've got a few various thickness for summer and winter hiking

Day to day I wear oddballs but they're very bright so not for everyone

I have been accused of not cutting my toenails and being a fatty!

Neither I'm afraid. I do however spend a lot of time on my feet between owning a dog and often renovating properties. I've done nine marathons, including the world majors, but wouldn't use regular socks for that!

Thanks for all the decent suggestions, folks that made them. biggrin

One thing I've learned with socks is to stick to one make. as it makes sorting after washing easier.

I now just buy a load of socks from the supermarlet at around a pound a pair, and bin them and start again when they wear out.

Community Clothing and Reef Knots both do robust British made socks which seem to last a while.

I miss the thick socks that Gap did until the early naughties.

TK Maxx are obviously hit and miss but a good start if you are passing one.

Username checks out biggrin

Am I the only one who just gets M&S plain black cotton socks. I buy 10 pairs of identical socks and the last set lasted 2-3 years with daily usage.

Also second the person who said by identical pairs, saves a huge amount of time in sorting and folding because you can just through the pile in a drawer and pick any two each morning.
