How can people be so entitled and selfish?
Discussion
We are moving soon and we have some stuff that we no longer need. Rather than throw them away I thought it would be good to give them to someone. I found a Facebook site for Copenhagen where people could do just that.
Although we had various things to donate I started with a pair of mission speakers, CD player and tuner. There was lots of interest. I contacted first person. “I will come this evening”. 7pm. 7pm comes and goes. A couple of hours later I sent a message to be told “oh I don’t think I am going to make it.” So contacted next person. Yes would love them…I will be there tomorrow at 5:30. So I leave work a bit early. Doesn’t turn up. After I chase him I get the same lame excuse.
What the hell is wrong with people? How can they be so self centred and entitled that they don’t have the common decency to tell you when they can’t make it?
At least I don’t feel so bad about throwing stuff away now.

It's a online thing that people do under the cloak of anonymity,
but would never do it in person, kinda like Munchausens,
they derive pleasure from agreeing to do something
knowing full well they are not going to carry
it through, you get it a lot on Ebay and
Gumtree, people asking questions
about an item, showing interest,
essentially timewasters,
you know they are
never going to bid.

"Free" is a dangerous price to put for something online, it immediately brings the most cretinous timewasters out of the woodwork.
There is a lot to be said for listing at a nominal price to cut out the riffraff and then just telling the person who actually turns up they can have it for nothing.

I always message someone to check it's still ok about an hour before. This goes for everyone, not just FB. After 30 years of being let down, disappointed and had my time or money wasted, I figured out that this is how you have to treat people even if they're fully grown people who should be able to manage their s

This is actually what I ended up doing when I did my garden. I had a load of stuff that people on the local FB were always asking for. After about the third time of people just not showing up, I just put it all in a skip.
k 'em. Put it all in a skipThe worst one was a woman who kept asking for pallets. I gave her two and about 3 weeks later she brought them back when I wasn’t in. she no longer wanted them. By this point though my garden was finished and the skip had gone. I had to cut them up to get them to the tip. Waste of nearly a day when I could have just put them in the skip.

I don’t know what goes through some people’s heads….I FACKING GAVE IT AWAY, WHY WOULD I WANT IT BACK!
Marketplace is absolutely full of full of idiots.
I advertised a spare child's bike seat on there to get shot of it, free. A young lass messaged me and I sent a few more pictures. Turns out it wasn't the right sort to fix to her bike, and she asked if I'd be able to get (I guess she meant buy) the right attachments for her. WTF?!
In her head, she must have imagined I was offering the chance of a seat, plus attachments and a fitting service. People are mental.

Eggactly this. I charge say £5 or £10, and when the buyer turns up, I tell them that it is free. I gave away a Triangle tyre that had been sitting in the garage for a year or two. Listed it at £10, guy came to collect and gave it to him for free. He was so emotional about it I thought he was going to cry! If I had listed it for free 99% of the responses would have been from mouthbreathers. I once sold a 4 seater sofa on market place for £20. Had a lot of interest including a dog rehoming place but I stuck with the first come first serve and agreed a collection. They turned up in an Audi a1, which I had to humour them for 20minutes whilst they tried to get it in the back. (It was wider than the boot opening for a start.)
They then said they’ll take the cushions and come back for the rest.
They never came back leaving me with a sofa with no cushions to get rid of.

IME putting a nominal price brings out the sob story wThere is a lot to be said for listing at a nominal price to cut out the riffraff and then just telling the person who actually turns up they can have it for nothing.
kers, ‘My sisters cousins dog had to have surgery and it would mean so much if you could let me have this piece of unused garden furniture for free as we can afford the leased 18 month old A-class to come and collect it with but we can’t afford to pay the £20 nominal fee you're asking’
I'm in the same position, moving and got a bit of half decent stuff I no longer require, old Specialized MTB etc, I'm going to give as much to the charity shops etc, and let them make use of it.
Going to ride the bike to Halfords for them to send abroad for someone to make use of.
It's a shame, I'd like to help someone closer to home, but sorting through the tyre kickers and time wasters makes it too tedious to bother.

My old neighbour made a good living car booting stuff she'd get off gumtree/marketplace/others, she'd get it free or give them a sob story and get it for pennies.
She'd have 5 or 6 McLaren pushchairs, bikes, guitars and even one of those lazy spa hot tubs in the garage ready to sell.
Her old man reckons she made £400 every weekend at car boots.
