Lasting power of attorney weirdness
Discussion
Wife (39) received a message from her dad (67) this evening about power of attorney. However his plan is to make his mate his PoA and have her be the stand in. His mate is similar age to him. Now there could be all sorts of reasons why he’s done this, and if it matters I can explain more but I’m more bothered about the potential hassles and problems this arrangement might create down the line. She seems quite accepting of it all but I I kind of think there is only one attempt at this so it needs to be right. Any advice? Thanks
I'd echo the above.
For financial I was a Court Guardian for my mum for a number of years. All the power to do anything, however all that was then checked by the courts to prevent me scamming the poor old dear.
Win win for mum, she had someone to look after all her finances, with the double checking of the courts.
I'd encourage this method, it protects everyone, including those acting on behalf of another.

The thing is that my wife knows she won’t scam him but it’s not clear what this other guy would really be like in the event of her dad becoming incapacitated For financial I was a Court Guardian for my mum for a number of years. not yet. It was only last night that this was first communicated to her. She doesn't know him that well. It just feels a bit odd, as it says in the wishes for both financial and medical PoA that discussions will be held between daughter and friend and if a decision cannot be agreed upon, the friend can override the daughter. It feels like that could be exploited. Maybe it is my ignorance as to what authority is granted with PoA.
