Security Tag Removal

Need advice here on how to remove this security tag.

No, I am not a shoplifter. Mrs F bought this over 6 months ago. Brought it home and forgot about it. When she went to put it on she discovered the tag. Took it to John Lewis who said they could not remove it without proof of purchase. So here we are (she doesn't keep receipts...)

Smashing with a hammer is out as it's too likely to damage the material. Anyone here got any ideas?

You need to find a large round magnet such as from a speaker driver, it then releases a claw internally that allows the tag out.

Another shop might help you but they also might think it’s a bit suspicious!

Buy same item, use receipt to have tag removed, take purchased item back for refund.

Use different branches to avoid suspicion, try not to look furtive.

As said magnets are what releases them but if you want the store to sort it would a bank statement for a transaction greater than the value not suffice?

I had a splurge a few weeks ago and bought a new apple watch and ear pods from John Lewis who forgot to detag. Oddly did not set off their security, but did Next’s. Chap appeared and offered to detag it, zero care about whether it had been paid for!

I went to put a shirt on when on holiday and it still had the atg on ffs, again John Lewis, did it to my wife as well, usually exemplary but we have had a few little slips over the last couple of years. Annoying when you pay quite a lot of money for a nice short and cant wear it.

Just take it back and tell them to take it off, have some proof of purchase, if not they will have evidence of your transactions in their systems.

I'd be going back to John Lewis, asking to speak to the manager, and asking him/her if you'd really be that daft to bring the item back if she'd stolen it. Presumably she has bank statements, other purchases, a Partnership card etc etc.

It's JLP's problem due to their incompetence (I've had the same in different stores), and up to them to prove she "stole" it. What happens if when she tries to remove it, her attempts/the dye marker ruin her purchase? By trying to remove it, she looks "guilty". Complain, JLP are supposed to be very good on customer service. One assumes that as the JLP shopping wife of a powerfully built PH company director, she's hardly going to walk in looking like Vicky Pollard having swiped a steak from Iceland?

It's about time John Lewis fked right off into bankruptcy.

Mrs Dundarach came home from Waitrose with decaf, took it back, couldn't do anything without a receipt. It became my email and twitter hill to die on for a few hours. Needless to say, was soon back in the store seeing the same cow, and guess what, all sorted.

Get onto head office and twitter and make a stink, I'm pleased they've dropped the 'never knowingly' bks, that was utter ste like their customer service.

(also, yes I know you love them, no I don't care about the staff, yes your customer service is excellent, no I don't care your mum works there, yes I use amazon, no I don't care the high street is dying, no fking wonder)
