I'm also annoyed by the NP&E restrictions, it was the most interesting section at times. 1000 seems such an arbitrary number, i completely understand the reasoning for limiting access, but I don't see why it couldn't be 200, I don't believe there would be any difference and it would improve the engagement of the site. If any Mods are reading, is there any reason specifically that 1000 posts was the chosen limit?
