I find it so contrived, a celebration of gluttony, largely undeserving kids surrounded by discarded wrapping paper and mounds of stuff they don’t need. The diminishing reward of gifts as they open more and more and set it aside to open the next thing.

Large family gatherings where you’re obliged to go Happy Christmas and spend time talking about some crap with people you wouldn’t normally choose to spend time with, but Christmas is all about family right?

Stuff our faces because it’s Christmas, over indulge and sit around watching the same rubbish Christmas movie year after year, because it’s Christmas. The same songs over and over, the same sickly Christmas messages on media, WhatsApp’s from loads of people going through the motions, socials all full of sell sell sell or happy bloody Christmas.

Default response from the uninitiated? Bah humbug, haha, like religious zealots dismissing reality by saying the lord works in mysterious ways, if you dare pull the covers off Christmas, well, bah humbug, you just don’t like Christmas blah blah, hilarious.

Who’s with me, who next year will join me in an anti-Christmas stance and we just go to the pub and talk cars and stuff, and forget about all these contrived expectations put on us by a vacuous society.

I agree, but others enjoy it so I leave them to it. I enjoy the not working bit though!

I really don't like the rampant consumerism and environmental hypocrisy though. I could do without both ideally!

I'm with you. It's nice to have a couple of days to chill, but that's always been countered by the stress/pressure/expectation of gifts.

Mum's in poor health this year, possibly her last Christmas and it's set the tone for a very stripped back event. Minimal gifts, none just for the sake of it, and a focus on spending time with loved ones.

It's a strange day for me. My Dad died on Christmas Day 2017, so it always puts a dampener on proceedings for me. I enjoy giving presents so that always cheers me up when I see the joy it gives. The kids get gifts they need or have been wanting for a long time. It's not piles of stuff, just one large present and a few smaller things. My daughter has been wanting a TV for years, we have relented now she is 17 and my son has new golf clubs and he has outgrown his current set. Then I hide in the kitchen cooking for the family and raise a large glass of single malt later in the day.

I didn’t like Christmas. If I wanted something I bought it when I wanted it and same for OH.
Don’t like the forced fun with people/family you only see once a year because for the other 364 days you don’t like them or have nothing in common.

But this year my son is nearly 3 and gets Christmas a little. Was excited this morning to see what Santa had brought. Saying thank you santa for every present he opened.
So this year it’s the three of us today. Grandparents were here yesterday.

Nice meal at 3 then carry on spending time with close family.
No stress no rampant consumerism. Just a chilled out Christmas, perfect.

all year we are force fed that having a plastic bag to take the shopping home is evil and all that dross , dress it up as xmas and you can have all the plastic landfill rubbish you want as long as someones making a few quid

load of hypocryte b.s

on other news - any bets on the first shop to fail after xmas?

Remarkably easy to fix!

Just treat it like this -

Chill out and enjoy time with family/friends/yourself, make your favourite food, maybe a little drink, have a relaxed day away from the usual routine- there’s 364 other days that you can treat like any other day!

How much rampant consumerism you partake in is up to you wink

I'm working all through. Good thing as I'd be on my own otherwise.

No difference, in fact it's busier today. Chinese company and they don't do Christmas. Fine by me.

Listening to the radio and they are talking to people on their own, then the News.

Massive attack on Kiev, airliner crash in one of the 'Stans, bloke shot dead by police in Worcestershire, guy arrested for trying to murder people in Charing Cross Road last night etc etc.

World carries on as usual frown

My thoughts exactly, celebrate the days getting longer if nothing else. Though for me the rampant consumerism is the best bit.

I think Christmas personally can be whatever you choose it to be really. Either dive right in, ignore it totally, or something in between.

When I look back at very stressful Christmas times that still give me the chills, it was normally due to my ex wife taking way too much on / committing to far too many people / having her own sky high Disney princess expectations of 'the big day' and generally exhausting herself and everyone around her to the point of meltdowns all round...

With her replaced a few years back, its all just all much better and very much to my liking hehe
