Anyone sub to The Times newspaper digitally?
They're currently offering 4 months subscription for £1, viewable on smartphone, web and tablet.
Just wondering if anyone here subscribes, and if there are any issues such as plagued with annoying adverts etc? I'm tempted, but would make sure I cancel in time before price reverts to normal.

I took one of these reduced subscriptions once, just be ready for the hard sell when you try to cancel which (at the time) could only be over the phone.
It was a rather protracted call and by the time he was offering me a subscription at half the advertised full cost, I was that pissed off with him I just wanted to cancel out of principle.

I’ve just taken out that £1 for 4 months subscription.
So far so good. Apps work well on my phone and tablet and web version is fine on my laptop. There are ads but they aren’t intrusive - no videos autoplaying or stuff like that…
I’ve heard stories about getting the hard sell when trying to cancel but tbh I’m pretty tempted to keep the subscription running once the four months are up. I will play “hard to get” though and try and worm a discount out of them

I'm still "getting to grips" with the Times app but it does offer more than a digital version of the day's paper - it seems to get updated regularly throughout the day.
It's early days but I'm enjoying it so far - and I rarely bother with the other broadsheets online.
I took out one of the trials 5 months ago and the app on phone where I’ve mainly used it is good, especially on a short plane flight or suchlike, where a downloaded edition with all the supplements is a great read. I will probably cancel though, because 25 quid a month is a lot for something I don’t use enough.

Thanks, I've just subscribed, think I'll ring them tomorrow to cancel so it doesn't auto renew, assuming it will remain upto the 4 month date. I used to enjoy the Sunday Times with all the different supplements, though as a paper boy I didn't like delivering them!

I have had a succession of these ‘trial’ subscriptions. Just ring them up a couple of days before the trial period ends & cancel. Then they send you an e-Mail with a new offer to sign up to. Rinse & repeat. The website & app work well & are regularly updated. The user experience is good, & miles better than any of the awful ones run by Reach, eg Express, Mirror.
Editorially I have noticed a distinct shift downmarket under the current editor, with more royal & celebrity nonsense. Sport, business, columnists etc are still among the best of the papers, though.

A few days in and Im enjoying the Times trial subscription. I like that you can read on their website, or on the phone app. As well as the news there's always a few non news articles that catch my eye to read. Trial offer ends soon according to The Times, or does it?
I quite fancy subscribing to the Telegraph too, I recall their Saturday paper was the big thick one with all the supplements, whereas The Times was Sundays, not sure it it's still the same?. Telegraph is currently 3 months free then £14.99/month, or alternatively £49/year.

With the Times you get a curated selection of articles on Apple News which just pissed me off. You also couldn’t read old articles without paying. The paper itself is less serious than it was, why they think any Times reader gives a damn about Meghan Markle is beyond me. There is so much more opinion and feature than there is news.

I subscribe to both the Telegraph and the Times when they have a deal on; I was recently offered a 1 year deal for £25 with the Telegraph, and the Times was £1 a month for 6 months. The trick is to remember to cancel before the trial expires; I always pay via paypal of (now) google subscriptions as it’s is easy to cancel without having to call.
