Sorry for the cr@ppy title
My fiance
Is French (no pictures before you all ask)
Her grasp of English is little better than my French which is dismal to say the least!!
I have been looking at these translator gizmos....
Does anyone have any recomendations?
Thanks
K

I took a look at reviews of some of these a couple of weeks ago. My wife is Polish, and although she is fluent in English it's a bit of a pain in Poland where she's obviously speaking to most people in Polish.

Thought it might be useful to get translation earphones so I could at least roughly follow the conversation even if I wasn't speaking.
But from my research it seemed just as easy to use Google translate on my phone.

Thanks for that.
I just thought that there might be some real time 'Babble fish' ear phones on the market now??

They do exist ... real-time is not possible (yet) with the below as there is a couple of seconds delay in decoding time - there are others on the market too I believe:

Time to learn french then. If you need conversational French then I've always found language courses better in person than online courses or Duolingo etc, although DuoLingo is good to expand word knowledge.

Some run 2 hours a week via zoom etc now.

Of course being French, it could be your fiancee is just being awkward about knowing English biggrin

You're engaged to somebody and neither of you can speak to each other?

That's quite impressive. smile

If her English is crap and your French is crap, how do you communicate with each other? Did she become your fiance by some accident of misunderstood translation?

I have one of these

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0C3KMNY26

Works perfectly for me in Spain.

Online or offline with A/B talking or simply conversation mode.

It's been a winner for me

Totally recommended

I also have these

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CYZPMQTN

Again they really do work well (each person wears one)

Online is very good, offline is not so good

They are not so good when there is a lot of background noise

Usually that happens much later in the relationship. Bravo.

Come on, you can't not explain how on earth you've managed to get engaged to someone you cannot freely communicate with.

We are both learning with the help of phrase books on line translators you tube tutorials and just talking to each other. Watching well known movies with subtitles etc. It has improved greatly. Just wondered if there was a 'Babble fish' device on the market?

The 1st one I linked up above really very very good. It's Amazon, so give it a go and return it if it's not working out for you.
