It's the last day. You've taken the loo paper, tiny bottle of shampoo, monogrammed towel, slippers, and cling-wrapped shortbread biscuit.

Do you make the bed; in some sort of internal respect that shows you value the dignity of the staff, thereby reflecting your own home views and moral upbringing.

Or do you sling it all in the bath, like a Supermarket Sweep of room clearance. Conscious of the time save for the overworked.

Perhaps you roll out like an unsecured trailer. Leaving anything that doesn't belong to you where it falls. A tornado of damp carpet and open windows. You paid for the service after all.

I don't see how making the bed helps anybody, they're only going to have to strip it again. Bedding on top of the bed, used towels in the sink.

I thought I was the only one who did this biggrin

Although I don't make it to the level that the maids do I will try and leave the room as neat and tidy as possible.

Unused towels folded away
used towels in the bath
All rubbish in a carrier bag
Sheets and pillows straight, duvet as straight as can be
Sink and shower/bath rinsed and dried
Since the "Kettle - Underpants" stories I've stopped using the brew facilities and go to a local Pret or Cafe Nero instead.

Towels all in the bath or shower.

Bed turned down but left in a non-slept in state.

All rubbish in the bin and things like remotes and stuff left as I found them.

It’s not hard to leave a hotel room that doesn’t look like a herd of cattle have stayed the night.

No I don't make the bed because they are going to have to strip and wash the sheets before the next guest in any event.

I leave it in a generally tidy state because I'm not a farmyard animal, but I don't attempt to make the bed properly or clean anything because I'm not being paid to do that, and the people they are paying to do that will just redo it anyway and better than I would.

Not really as it will be cleaned and changed in any case, but I do leave a towel animal of my own and a tip in an envelope.

Other than our honeymoon I don’t think I’ve spent a dozen nights in hotels in thirty something years, and none at all for quite some time so my experience in these matters will fall far short of most respondents however my wife is a former Chamber Maid and her Mum spent forty plus years in the industry ending up as Head Housekeeper and they always leave the room in a state that makes it as easy as possible for the (very poorly paid and time starved) hotel staff.

Bed stripped
Towels all in the bath (including the unused)
Bins emptied into a bag
Generally tidied up.
Nice little note and some coins by the bedside.

The towel thingy above made Mrs s8 smile. Thanks.

Assuming that you have used the shower or bath, wouldn't that make the towels wet.

I don't leave it like a sty but, having read some of the posts above, I'll start putting the towels in the bath and stripping the bed.

Unused pillows go on the chair. Used towels in the bath. In a twin room the used bed has the linen in a pile. Everything else is untouched.

What on earth is the point of making the bed ? - it gets changed just after you've left.
Just leave the room tidy.

I've stayed in hotels where if you want your towels replaced when the room is being cleaned but you are still staying there, the instructions are to put them in the bath/shower.

I always make the bed every morning. Dunno why now that you mention it. Maybe making the bed on the last day is more troublesome for the staff?

I will make an effort to make sure the room is tidy, I will pull the sheets over and tidy pillows etc, but OI see no point in treating a room I pay for like dirt

The animal isn't my work unfortunately, just pulled the pic off the web.
The rest of what I said was true though.
