I'm sure that I've seen a tv documentary on this, and it looks properly scary.

I can imagine that you'd be fully clenched until you reached the other side!

To be fair, the outcome after falling 20ft in a car is not hugely different to falling 2000ft. The only difference being you'll have a bit longer to think about it.

About 12-15 seconds longer yikes

To be fair, while driving over it you're not going to be able to see below you.

I get to play on the top of the Forth Road Bridge and Queensferry Crossing from time to time, and they are actually scarier when you're hanging underneath on the mobile gantries!

Forth Road Bridge top.

I drove over the Millau bridge in France. You cant really see the drop as you drive over. You can properly appreciate it from the town below or the service station on the notrth side.

My science teacher warned me against reading popular science articles back in secondary school.

This isn't even in the top ten.

The Millau viaduct is still the world's tallest bridge.

This is really badly worded, in typically lazy American stye. Tallest would be the height of the structure itself from its base to its summit. Highest would be the distance from the ground beneath to the bridge deck. I think the article writer probably meant highest, and used tallest incorrectly.

Possibly.

So the world's tallest bridge and the world's highest bridge probably aren't the same bridge.

True:

Huajiang Canyon - height 682 ft
Millau Viaduct - height 1125 ft

It is the worlds highest bridge:

Huajiang Canyon - clearance 2,051 ft
Millau Viaduct - clearance 890 ft

My Audi TT aquaplaned on the Millau. Scary situation made worse by my girlfriend grabbing my arm and screaming as I'm attempting to give opposite lock. hehe

I just had a look at the Millay bridge on Google Earth. Something bad seems to have happened to it.

There’s a visitor centre underneath showing construction stages etc. Worth a visit.

See you / raise you.

My first project - building the Storebaelt bridge in Denmark. At the time, the second longest suspension bridge in the world.
We used to walk the catwalk that hung from thw 20,000Te main cables all the time:

256m above sea level IIRC.

I'd be more worried about who built it after seeing plenty of China videos evidencing incredibly poor quality and building practices in the industry..

Whilst this is true, it's hard not to notice 250m (Dollars) and 3 year build time.

It took London much longer than that to spend £50m to decide not to build a bridge, and not to be outdone Wales spent £135M over decades deciding not to build a third brynglass tunnel.

How long will it be before some TikTok Tungsten anchor tries to jump off it, for ‘likes and follows’?

I remember watching some story on Sky News about a new Chinese suspension bridge called Braveman’s Bridge. I did a double take as the camera panned, rewound the TV and paused it to take a photo….

After my spell on the above Storebaelt Bridge, I went China. Jiangyin Bridge. 4th longest in the world.

Built by china.

Managed by ………. UK Co.
Dorman Long / Cleveland Bridge- who were the same in role with the Tsing Ma bridge in Hong Kong.

Throwing stones at China does seem a rather weak argument

Cool. Is this new bridge being managed by a UK co?
