Scenario here is trying to locate a person with dementia that has a tendancy to wander off, get on the bus and end up god knows where.

I'm on android so looking at the mototag, the plan is to bond the tag to his walking stick...as that's the only item he definitely wouldn't forget!

I've seen other bits of kit that are specifically for this purpose but the cost seems disproportionate.

Any lived experience. Doesn't have to be a person, anyone use one on their dog, car, bike etc etc.

We use an AirTag for this purpose

In lining of various coats etc

Works pretty well, if you can also sling a cheap phone in the bag that also works well

Slightly off-beam, but would this do the job?

It would have to be an IPhone which means it would need charging regularly

Probably....it's just 5x the cost of a Moto tag!

Given they're only 30quid probably just best to get one and see how it performs.

The way all the trackers work is they are detected by the other devices in that "eco system" - so if you used "tile" then you need someone with that app / permissions enabled on their phone close by for it to be picked up.

In that regard- through sheer volume AirTags tend to be the most reliable - as basically anyone with an iPhone will detect it and update its position.

We have an AirTag on the dogs collar when were out walking just in case - it's actually worked a couple of times when he's come back from the dog walker with no collar on (he gets walked on a harness) - I could then use the AirTag to find the lost collar.

I believe the Moto tag uses exactly the same principle of checking in with any android device within Bluetooth range and it's location is passed up to the cloud.

There's no reliance on nearby devices having a specific app or set of permissions. It's built into the "find my device" android function....which you've got to assume most people will have enabled.

there is also the Chipolo Pop, seems to be the same price (£30).
I have no experience on how well they work.
