Granted the weather isn’t what it was meant to be but I’m in Warwick right now which is a pretty big tourist destination.

What an utter dump.

Other than paying £35 to go round the castle what am I missing?

I keep expecting to turn a corner and run into something impressive.

Warwick, it makes you think Stratford-upon-Avon is nicer than it really is.

This is the size of it, the only thing I remember about visiting the place was the castle.

Warwick is a let down, and a lot of it is a bit rough.

Castle, racecourse, St Nicholas park. Some nice restaurants.

Kenilworth isn't far (that's got a castle too) and so is Leamington, which doesn't have a lot going for it these days either.

Cotswolds. Part of Warwickshire. Warwick is a just a town. Like most towns, it's crap.

Like plenty of towns it's gone right downhill.

Pre covid I'd visit regularly, on the odd occasion I've been since it's a let down.

The park is ok and kenilworth castle is worth a visit.

I visited recently, hadn't been before. Warwick is a lot smaller than I expected. Some nice Tudor architecture but nothing that isn't more impressive elsewhere locally (Henley in Arden for a start). We preferred the centre of Leamington Spa with it's contrasting Georgian theme and bigger city feel.

Glad it's not just me then.

I haven't been there since I was a kid so I couldn't remember anything but we literally walked from the station to town and after about an hour "was that it?!".

Absolutely beyond grim tbh.

I had a similar impression of Stratford going back after not having been there for years but that did at least have that moment when you hit the "old" part of the town and you're down by the park and river and it's bloody lovely.

Maybe it's sour grapes as the weather didn't turn out how the forecast said but what a shocker frown

Oi, Leamington is lovely, I just moved here!

Should have gone to Nuneaton first, you'd have been happy to visit Warwick then.

Warwick, Leamington and Kenilworth are busy becoming a giant housing estate suburb of Coventry. Bisected by HS2 and the A46. Progresssmile

If you'd been there ten years ago, you'd agree with me.

I lived in Leam for a year whilst a student at Warwick Uni, which oddly is actually mostly in Coventry and not at all in Warwick. I remember it as a fairly nice place TBH but this was early 90s. Coventry was rough, Kenilworth was boring, Leam was quite nice and Warwick was just something you occasionally saw on road signs.

Leam feels slightly genteel.

Being born in Cov this was our perceptions when growing up.

Kenilworth = Posh pensioners.
Warwick = Where your solicitor lived
Leam = People with kids called Jocasta or Ophelia

Ahh maybe, but we moved here from a place a long way from any decent city, and now I’m closer to them all.
Leam was a good choice for what we needed, it’s been a year and all is well.

Plus…is anywhere better than it was 10 years ago, can’t be many spots

TBF, you could do worse smile But Leam used to be a destination for shops, pubs and restaurants, and it just isn't any more. Mind you, neither is anywhere else these days. Livery Street has seen a resurgance but, last time I was there Royal Priors was half empty, as was the Parade.

That's sad to hear, grew up in that neck of the woods, Warwick market square was quite nice back in the 00's, and as you say Leamington used to have a fair bit going on n, albeit getting a bit rough on weekend nights...
Stratford was never exiting, but was always nice, sad if that's changing...
