not entirely sure I've got this in the right section
but just wanted to say I'm getting a bit cheesed off with trying to sell on Ebay

the latest wrinkle is customers can no longer pay cash on collection, this is in addition to them insisting on you use their postage service and you don't get the cash from the sale right away either

punters now have to email you a code that they get from ebay once they receive it for you to get paid, so not open to abuse at all, or even if they can't be bothered / forget....

ebay has worked fine for decades and I'm sure the owners must be on their 3rd private island by now so what the actual F are they playing at

I've seen loads of ads with a price but no buy it now button, just contact seller or make an offer. Get them to make an offer, take cash when they collect?

I only sell on Facebook now, I'll buy any crap from eBay though.

eBay isn't for private sales that need collecting anymore with the exception of cars.

That's what FBMP is for.

Done a fair few items now that would have been cash on collection previously.

Straight forward …

When the sale is made I mail the buyer reminding them to bring the collection code or they won’t be going home with the item.

I also put it in my listings that no code on collection means they won’t be going home with the item.

They have all brought the code so far … I’ve scanned it … eBay has confirmed and I’m paid a few days later.

No problem.

From a seller's point of view I put items on with a 99p start and Ebay's carrier fee, the punter see's a £1,75 opening price and a higer carrier fee, so Ebay are earning off both their 'buyer protection fee' and they are taking a fee from Herpes or Royal Fail....

I had a punter yelling at me last week because one item out of ten bought failed to arrive, I suggested that he waited a couple of days to see if the missing thing turned up. He went to Ebay and lodged a missing item claim, Ebay refunded him but told me that I had done nothing wrong as I had a receipt from the drop off point. Buyer later admitted that his item arrived one day later, I hope Ebay got their money back!
Same buyer tried to claim credit against another purchase from me, daft bugger.

I did a 'cash on collection' one day last week, buyer messaged me offering £15 for 28 tiles that I had left over, came and collected, gave me cash so I cancelled the listing, it had been there for four weeks with zero interest so I doubt Ebay will be troubling me for their cut!

All helps a bald, fat retired guy to fight Rachel from accounts who not only stole my WFA but is taking an even larger slice of my Forces pension.

eBay is pretty good at seeing if your messages are trying to negotiate a cash on collection price outside of the normal process. They're especially good if you give phone numbers or email addresses in messages.

Ebay is a parody of its former self.

But FB market place is a horror show.
Somehow it brings out the worst in the buy/sell process.

I don't sell much, but the best thing seems to be specialist FB groups or pages.

To be fair to ebay, they have changed the model to use a 'buyer protection fee' to cover the costs of disputes and returns.
With cash on collection, they can't collect that?

It's the internet generally, nothing is like the early 2000s before everyone got greedy.

I bought something on eBay last week, turned up, paid cash. Then he cancelled the sale, perfect as no money went to eBay, thieving bds biggrin

We used to sell alpaca food on eBay, but their cut meant it wasn’t financially viable.

I collected a lawnmower the other week, paid cash. Only issue is now there's no way to say i've paid and collected it. Keep getting reminders that the transaction will be cancelled etc

Why does it have to be a cash sale?

Sold a few items recently with buyer collection only.

Opened the app, entered the code the buyer had, job done.

No emails required and done in less than a minute.

I believe it is designed to also stop buyers trying to scam the seller with a 'not received' complaint.

The fees, plus waiting longer for payment etc is turning me off e bay. Not to mention the new HMRC rules.
I only sell every now and again when I’m having a shuffle round of models or clearing kids things.
I think collectors fairs and car boot sales are starting to appeal again.
No doubt we’ll have to hand over our national insurance numbers to be allowed entry to those soon too.

Think its to do with buyer protection. Its gone a bit nuts tbh. I am selling some stuff right now, once thats all gone I think my days on ebay are done.

eBay must be struggling now - I think the sporadic changes over the past 24months are highlighting this.

My latest pet peeve is the fact they held on to sale proceeds for two weeks after selling and dispatching.

My seller rating has fallen below their acceptable rating due to cancelled sales, and I have one late delivered item, they have restricted me to 0 sales a month so there is no way of recovering it! Yet they email me suggesting I improve it.

you can use what ever postage you like, I just did last weekend on an iPad i sold, you just record the tracking number, ebay are pretty cheap on postage but I am lazy and like to use a collection service.

the code on sales collection is a brillaint idea, it protects the seller from non delivery refunds

i see the no fees but then introducing a buyers protection fee as a scam ... i hate its applied after the sale as this increases the price, i would rather set a price and they take a %

hanging onto the money for a bit is kinda sensible, acting as an escrow service

I think facebay really has kicked them in the balls along with so many dishonest folks taking advantage of the platform

I only use it to shift low value stuff that doesn’t really bother me if it goes pear shaped

Yup, did the same. Offered the bloke a £20 note and he happily cancelled the sale there and then, both happy.
