Poundland - You Joke!
Discussion
I was a few minutes early for an appointment in town today. I noticed that next door there was a Poundland shop.
Having never been in a Poundland before I was intrigued as to how they can sell everything for a pound, so thought I would nip in to have a look.
However - the display of toys that greets you as you enter the door has literally nothing priced at a pound.
Seemed to be the same in the rest of the store; some items were a quid - but no more than any other store would be selling.
I had thought that the whole point of the place was that everything was a pound so you don't have to ask the price, as in the Catherine Tate's Nan sketch "how much is that" - it's a pound Nan..
Everything a pound my arse !

Everything being £1 used to be the case but it hasn t been like that for a very long time - certainly not since it went bust first time around and was bought by current owners PepCo
Never been in one so I mistakenly thought that everything at £1 was their business model. As I said above I was intrigued as to how they do it - but they clearly don't !

Some stuff in there is cracking value, but the rest is total crap designed to trick thick people who think they are getting a bargain
The cleaning stuff is brilliant value. Stuff like bleach, Cif, kitchen and bathroom sprays and the like. I love their ice cream section. They often have foreign 500ml tubs for a quid, and some of them are brilliant. Last week a bought some unheard of Salted caramel and chocolate brownie vegan ice cream, even though I'm not vegan. Absolutely fabulous, up there with Haagan Daaz. Wife sent me back for 5 more tubs. Edited by Spare tyre on Saturday 7th June 10:23
Past thread re their ice cream here.

Went into one about a week ago needing a screwdriver in a pinch and in the absence of Wilko's on the high street now I thought it was my best option, picked up a set of 4 for £1.50, they may well break the first time I try to use them for anything more strenuous than opening the battery compartment of a kids toy but I can't complain for the price.
Guess how much Poundland has been sold for?
Go on, guess!
