I am the new secreary of a local club, The previous sec ,is a treasuer and assisting me whn i ask for it, However the new chairman want to see every letter minutes etc before they are sent out, and is now sending notes telling me what to put in letters and minutes, in effect he is doing my work

I want to tell him to wind his neck in and let me get on with the job i was asked to do....but nicely

I want to say something along the lines of Thanks for the input, will use it if neceesary but without telling him to keep his nose out of it and do his job.
My wife has an expression ...Wait until i fall over before you pick me up, but are there any other ways of doing it?

Non abusive replies only please...lol

Based on that excerpt he’s perhaps concerned with your grammar and spelling?

It’s quite normal for committee members to review notes prior to wider release, a secretary would normally circulate a preliminary draft for committee review.

When you act as an officer of an organisation, you have to operate at their standards rather than your own.

It's pretty common for people to get to a point in life where their work hasn't had peer review in years, and their standards fall. This situation might be an example.

Did the chairman micromanage the old secretary or is this specific to you?

Or perhaps he’s just protection the organisation by making sure the new boy knows what he’s doing

I’d agree with this. Look at your recent posts for grammar and spelling. I don’t know if you check them, but there are quite a few errors.

I'm on the committee for a local club, and the secretary (who has been in the post for a decade or more) always sends any correspondence for members out to the committee members first for review. Usually just sends an email along the line of "I'm going to be sending this out on Wednesday, please read through and let me know of any amendments". It lets the committee know what is going on, means dates/fees/instructions get checked etc.

The club should have a committee that works as a team, and the chairman certainly should know what is being sent out in the club's name

This is likely for the masons. I'd expect them to want to do things right.

It's been the case for every management committee I've ever been a part of.

I'd agree with that - it's not a good look for any club/school/business/secret-handshake-brotherhood to send out poorly written correspondence.

OP - I've clicked on about three of the topics you have started this month via clicking on your username first. There are a lot of typos in there. Granted, we all make mistakes and it is just PH, but it does look a little sloppy.

I think the treasurer/chairman is perhaps diplomatically doing you a favour here.

Having run many teams myself, no one wants to waste their time micro managing anyone.

With new starters it is inevitable they will get greater over sight until they prove themselves competent. Some though never meet the standards and need constant supervision. Which category OP fits in I do not know but OP would do well to learn from the comments made so far above.
