To me that is a description of the stuff that I actively avoid. e.g.: Strictly, Traitors, The Jungle Thing, The Island Thing... you get the idea.Council Telly.
One doesn't need a synonym, one merely need speak to one's host and ask to reserve the BBC channel for the evening to allow one to view whatever televisual feast it happens to be.
