I was driving the other day and noticed a lot of graffiti- its probably always been all over the place but for some reason I noticed it more.

It got me wondering: did any of you do it in your youth? If so...

why?
Were you proud of it?
Are you ashamed now?
Can you still see some of your old graffiti??

I've never done it, and never liked it, So yeah I am against it. But I've never understood the motive.

In answer, no.

I love street art and large pieces. Hate the moronic tagging. The equivalent of a dog peeing on every lamp post and corner.

No.

Almost all the graffiti I've ever come across is a few letters in that st chalky white stuff.

Dunno where the stunning street art hangs out, but I never see it.

Our local town (Brixham) is being slowly enhanced with attractive murals. If these were done under the cover of darkness by an unknown would it be graffiti?

Eye of the beholder.

I drew a massive cock and balls on the back of a colleagues pad of paper so as he walked around the office between meetings (with said pad) everyone saw it.

Was a good one too, with wrinkles, veins and pubes too. Took a few days before someone pointed it out to him.

No but back in the 90s when I was at school someone at the school was doing their tag everywhere, over toilet walls, on lockers, outside on signs etc

You’d see it everywhere you went. Eventually it fizzled out

Imagine my surprise when the other day walking along a footpath where some bushes had been removed to reveal an old fence and wall, the graffiti was there, took me back

Yeah.

I did the Cadillac ranch on Route 66.

But other than that, no.

I have also never knowingly dropped litter.

I spent ages in there when we had a few days nearby in 2018. It was great that they understood it was only temporary and the next person turns up with a roller and paint to create a blank canvas again .

That bd wasp needs his fingers clipping, he's tagged everywhere in Portugal coastal areas. Over Thanet area it was a fried egg tags a few years ago, mainly over road signs. It's nice to go to countries where none of it happens. I was very surprised not to see any in New York last year.

Street Art can be fabulous!
Leicester has a regular Bring The Paint festival. We have the tallest street art in Europe (*painted by local artists), & some amazing work around the place. Brightens the city.

My fave is the SMUG self-portrait with the mouse. It s HUGE, & was done freehand!

There was also the amazing piece done by an artist to commemorate That Year :

Sadly some business has since painted over the rear wall. Idiots.

Graffiti (tagging), on the other hand is just ste. IMHO, of course!

I always associate graffiti to the rubbish that is done and can be seen when you travel by train. Just horrible vandalism.

Some street art though is very impressive.

Some of it is artistic and well put together, funny.

Most of it is sad, empty cretins thinking we care who they are, when what they write is indecipherable garbage linked to gangs and crime.

Most of it stays as it is hard to get rid of sadly makes most places look scummy, cheap and rough sadly.

Nope, never did. I might have chalked the kids' names in a rock face in Broadstairs when the tide was out.

I'd like to know how '10foot' manages to tag bridges and underpasses.

The FT had an interview with '10 feet', glamourising his tagging.... (or so I thought).... goes round the world doing it. FFS.

Like someone wrote above - it's like a dog pissing up a lamppost.

I'll see if I can find it - the FT article that is!

Edit to add: https://giftarticle.ft.com/giftarticle/actions/red... ..and sorry, it's "10 foot" hehe

Quite a bit of the horrible tagging on the motorway gantries around M25 to M40. I think Odious is the tag. Hope they fall off.

I think it makes any place look like a run down, dirty sthole. Take this in Margate makes me keep an eye out for junkies and thieves.

We have loads of proper street art around here, don't really see much of the crappy tagging stuff.

Southend City Jam happens every year https://share.google/7gKjqzkRiHSiYaEGL

And the sea wall from Tilbury to Purfleet is like the graffiti tunnel, people do stuff all along there

I like some of the stuff around Hackney. But then, I only visit; I don't live there.
