eBay - My address being used by another seller

Just had a knock on the door and a guy looking to pick up some TRV radiator valves that he bought on eBay. I didn't go into the details with him as I was in the middle of eating dinner but the listing, not mine obviously, had my full address as the collection address. Scam of some sort or just a mistake?

Seller not sold for a while & forgot to change his address?

It's a new build. We're the first occupants and been here since January

Did you ask him why your address was shown as the collection address?

As I said, I was in the middle of eating but the address was listed - he showed it to me to confirm he had it right.

He showed it me on his phone but I've no idea what the actual listing was. He seemed a nice guy and a bit confused/embarrased by it really

Everything was correct, including the postcode

It sounds like you need to find the listing & thereby the "seller" to bottom it out then.

Could be a hookey seller hoping people pay before collecting & they have just found a random address which happens to be yours, will likely be others coming along soon and then they will move on to another address at random.

I don’t think that works on eBay anymore as the buyer needs to confirm collection via a QR code for the money to be released to the seller.

Seller gets a number which he can give to the buyer before collection so that 'we don't need to mess about'.

Seller then gets paid before physical collection has happened (exactly as if it's going to get posted).

I've done it a few times as a seller when I'm confident that I'm dealing with an honest buyer.

Also done it as a buyer when the seller is obviously legit.

But it's a risk and open to abuse.

Which is possibly what's happened here.
