shopping trolley dumping
Discussion
Mind if i have a small rant, i won't go into what we'd like to do with the half wits who dump shopping trolleys and all other assorted rubbish.
Just been out with the dog for its morning walk, sure enough Asda shopping trolley been dumped half way down the bank of the stream, i've pulled it out and the remaining plastic bottles which didn't float off, its a lovely country park.
Would have dropped it off at the local store but wouldn't fit in the back of the car, its undamaged.
Rang Asda shop, went through half a dozen menu selections before speaking to a real person who seemed incapable of doing what he should and instead 'helpfully' gave me the trolley recovery phone number, which you've guessed it went to answephone.
Why do we bother? Ideally one of the delivery vans could have picked it up en route back to the shop or have we gone beyond common sense.
Is it any wonder the entire country is morphing into a crap hole.
Thankyou for allowing me this minor, by my standards, rant.

When I used to work at a supermarket we’d be taken out once or twice a year to collect trolleys from relatively far afield, two or three miles from the shop.
For some strange reason it was always to the same couple of council estates, never to the private ones.
They’d have to be liberated from being used as planters, storage for children’s toys, or as shelving as well as us getting ones that were just out in the street.
I wonder, looking back, if this sort of thing affected my political views.

a story I posted before on another thread but worth the repeat in this case.
supermarket trollies often have sensors on them that lock the wheels outside of a given area to stop the OPs problem from happening.
some years ago I was in Wimbledon. The GF wanted to drop into Sainsbury's. I stayed outside as it was a nice day. when you exit Sainsbury's, turn right and you go to the car park, turn left and a short walk takes you to the high street.
A chap comes out with a full trolly and turns left, im sitting on the wall watching. he gets about ten yards and the trolly stops. looks at the locked wheels, pulling it back it moves a bit, push forward, locks again. after a few times of this and much huffing and puffing he pulls it back towards the shop...
.....where he selects another trolly, transfers his bulky shopping into it.. and angrily pushes off--- left...where it stops again. at the point the GF came out and asked what I was laughing at.

They also have an app where you can submit the location and a photo of the offending trolley. Tends to get action in my experience, probably because there's an audit trail for the notification and the supermarkets are held responsible.I ve done it 3 different occasions but no idea if they do anything, as got no response!

There’s a Trolleywise app as well. When I (briefly) had it installed a few years ago, it had a leaderboard for the most prolific trolley finders in the country. Whether the found trolleys were ever recovered is a different question.I ve done it 3 different occasions but no idea if they do anything, as got no response!

t One thing that occurred to me though, given a carrier bag can cost up to 60p in some shops and a trolley only needs a £1 coin, does chav economics mean that if you need more than one bag then it’s more economical just to keep the trolley?

Where I live, there's a small M&S & Waitrose in the high street. (red dots)
By the afternoon, all the trollies are where the blue dot is and either none or very few at the actual supermarkets.
One lazy fekker starts the trend then everyone else thinks "Must be ok then"

It’s the shopping trolley theory. Basically, your normal sensible person, who has a moral compass, will return the trolley to where it should be returned. Anyone else who doesn’t, is a By the afternoon, all the trollies are where the blue dot is and either none or very few at the actual supermarkets.

There is a retail park near me, there is a bus stop on the edge of the retail park and most days there are about a dozen just scattered about.
To be fair Asda do come out every day or two but it just builds up again. They could stop it by putting in barriers on the walk ways but they seem to not bother.

Most trolleys will take freely available plastic tokens...
Reassuring notes there people that its not just me, it's a small thing in the grand scheme of life but pissed me off no end equally another feller walking his dog at the same time, the litter bin in the clearing was stacked with booze cans and bottles probably by an earlier (probably dog) walker, no doubt the trolley was used for transporting said goods.
The other fellow spotted it from his side as we parted and shouted a warning, just as well because it was right in the way as our Golden was about to jump in the stream to have further doggy frolics with his Boxer, could have been nasty if she'd got tangled up in it.

My perspective is a bit different on that. In the summer the best job was collecting the trolleys. You got to have a decent walk out in the sun, gathering them together from the further reaches of the car park.
. That s a fact too. If they were all back in the bay it was just getting them out twenty at a time and pushing them back into the shop up the big ramp.
I was always grateful to people who left them well-scattered.

Not a new problem. I used to work with someone who was a part time Lib Dem councillor in Bath, he was one of the drivers of getting the pound for a trolley scheme started, that was over 30 years ago.I ve done it 3 different occasions but no idea if they do anything, as got no response!

OP, they probably only pay £5 for a trolley, so not worth their time collecting it!
Said trolley has gone (never heard back from Asda's Trolley recovery crew, shocked i tell you), however there's a really nice young lady who almost single handedly maintains the part of that perfectly pleasant estate where she lives, wouldn't surprise me one bit if she got someone with a big enough boot to drop it back, she cleans up the small tributary stream near her home trims local hedges even maintains the estate mini roundabout with flowers etc.
