For me it's James Blunt Monsters ,first heard him perform it in the Rememberance service at the Albert Hall. It takes me straight back to holding my dads hand as he passed away ,dad was terrified he wasn't going to be with his beloved wife .
The performance with lam Tong and James Blunt hits me hard every time .

In a similar vein Fly Me To The Moon. I got to choose the song when my old dad went, he used to call Frank old blue eyes. Can't listen to that song without welling up.

Three years ago, I lost one one of my best mates to fking cancer. He loved Pink Floyd, and whenever I play some Floyd on guitar (which is often) I do well up a little especially when playing "Shine On......"

To counter that, I get goosebumps that make me feel really good and uplifted. Track #1 from Underworld's Second Toughest In The Infants always gets me for its relentless energy and inventiveness. Similarly, tracks #5 onwards on the first Northern Exposure album are exceptional.

Neighbour used to play it all day long, for days, I get 'nam type flashbacks when I hear the intro, The Horror.

Gloomy Sunday (Szomorú Vasárnap) by Rezső Seress although the version with the lyrics by László Jávor is the more well known version. It's a tough listen.

Rush : The Garden, My late wife Gill's favourite Rush track was played in its entirety at her funeral in 2016, I couldn't listen to it for years
then the tracks lyricist Neil Peart passed in 2020 and it hit me all over again, it's like he wrote the words for himself....

"The Garden"

In this one of many possible worlds
All for the best, or some bizarre test
It is what it is, and whatever
Time is still the infinite jest

The arrow flies when you dream;
The hours tick away
The cells tick away
The Watchmaker keeps to his schemes
The hours tick away
They tick away

The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect;
So hard to earn, so easily burned
The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect;
So hard to earn, so easily burned
In the fullness of time
A garden to nurture and protect

In the rise and the set of the sun
Until the stars go spinning, spinning 'round the night
Oh, it is what is it is, and forever;
Each moment, a memory in flight

The arrow flies while you dream;
The hours tick away
The cells tick away
The Watchmaker has time up his sleeves
The hours tick away
They tick away

The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect;
So hard to earn, so easily burned
In the fullness of time
A garden to nurture and protect
(It's a measure of a life)
The treasure of a life is a measure of love and respect:
The way you live, the gifts that you give
In the fullness of time
Is the only return that you expect

The future disappears into memory
With only a moment between
Forever dwells in that moment;
Hope is what remains to be seen
Forever dwells in that moment;
Hope is what remains to be seen

In the fullness of time
A garden to nurture and protect
(It's a measure of a life)
In the fullness of time
A garden to nurture and protect
(It's a measure of a life)
In the fullness of time
A garden to nurture and protect
(It's a measure of a life)
In the fullness of time
A garden to nurture and protect

It's a measure of a life
It's a measure of a life
It's a measure of a life
It's a measure of a life

You picked on one of mine... a couple of songs bring back a specific time, place, or person, and this is one of them. "Wish you were here" is another.

As for a song with no such association that brings me out in goosebumps, just through the force of the song... "The River", Bruce Springsteen.

I think many songs can have a big effect on you depending on the situation and the memories it brings back.

I can’t hear Dire Straits Romeo and Juliet without being transported back to 1982 and hearing it just after my financee had ditched me………..

LIkewise Wish you Were Here which was played at the funeral of a friends son who died aged 30.

And whilst no a song per se, for quite a while after my Dads death if Bruchs Violin Concerto came on classic Fm, I had to turn it off because it was his all time favourite piece and also a moving piece at the best of times!

The living years. Mike and the mechanics. After my dad died that song was a struggle, still affects me.
Who knows where the time goes, Sandy Denny. They can play that when they plant me.
There's a couple by Springsteen and Steve Knightley that always cause reflections.

O very young by Cat Stevens.
No particular reason but it makes me emotional.

They will vanish away like your daddy's best jeans
Denim Blue fading up to the sky
And though you want him to last forever
You know he never will
(You know he never will)
And the patches make the goodbye harder still

Cariad by The Royston Club.

Heard it live at the weekend at Tramlines in Sheffield and it was other wordly. My missus complained she couldn't hear them due to the total crowd involvement in the singing but it was just amazing. I had a trembly lip and moist eyes at the end!
