I always walk, I don't know what the split between the two is. I suspect it depends on the building and it's users.

I can't remember the last time I went above ten floors, if I had to probably would still walk.

I am always surprised when I see mobile people taking a lift for one floor.

If stairs are available, I always use them.

Bit of exercise never hurts, and if you're in an airport, for instance, you invariably get there quicker than the hordes of people crammed onto the escalaors.

When I worked in London I walked to any meeting within a 30min walk. Almost the entire company took taxis everywhere.

Lifts - I don't mind one floor but more than that ...

Stairs are fine if going down.
I will happily walk down many floors but wont climb more than 1 or 2.

I like to go up by lift.

I live on the 17th floor, never walked it and not even sure where the main staircase is. Used to live on the 42nd floor and did walk that a couple of times.

Generally it does annoy me when people go up/down one floor in the lift, especially in a busy building.

Always a lift, never miss the opportunity to let out a SBD then get out safe in the knowledge the rest of the passengers are enjoying your endeavours.

I always take stairs unless I am carrying a lot of luggage, as the fire doors in stairwells are a bit of a pain.

Stairs whenever I can locate them. I hate places where the stairs are impossible to find or they're behind alarmed fire doors and inaccessible. It's the only exercise I get these days! I often get to my floor quicker than people taking the lift too.

Daughter is worse, she positively hates lifts and avoids them like the plague. She's the youngest of three, and our middle one was stuck in a lift for 40-45 minutes when we were on holiday once. Even though it wasn't her who was stuck, she's the one who's developed a bit of a fear about them.

Stairs unless it's a huge number of floors or the staircase is one of those horrible concrete, cold, damp things that look like they should only be used in an emergency.

What REALLY annoyed me was on a recent cruise when we all end up getting back on the ship at the same time, hoards of healthy young people fighting for the lift when we were there with 2 small children in a double buggy trying to get to one of the upper floors. Some of them only going up one or two floors. I actually kicked a couple of teenagers out of the lift at one point argue

People are just completely fking lazy, no wonder roughly 2/3 of the UK are overweight or worse.

Stairs every time for me...

Nice bit of exercise (excellent for cardio fitness) so what's not to like? The building I work in has 10 flights of stairs (I work on the first floor). I sometimes climb all 10 flights as I find it a good way to de-stress... my 'record' is 1 min 22 seconds which is not bad for a 51 year old bloke IMO.

Get some odd looks from other people, mind.

Nearly always the stairs, even though I go for the top floor.

I've noticed that I hardly ever see a fatty choose the stairs.

I used to be a fatty that chose the stairs.

Similarly noticed that I never see fat people park at the back of the car park.

My first job was at the UK Atomic Energy Building...we had paternosters. Shame H&S killed them as they were handy things.

As does Sheffield Univesity’s Arts Tower. Was always good fun!

Health and Safety was mentioned above but, given they’re still in operation, there are obviously ways and means around it. Thousands of hungover students have managed to not kill themselves.

Anyway, stairs usually for me.

What annoys me is at airports where they have the moving walkways and instead of using them to double their speed people stand still on them and block all the other users.

My wife rejects lifts, for claustrophobic reasons not fitness, so if I'm with her I walk, if I'm on my own I take the luxury option.
