I thought seeing as I spend around £300 a month on petrol, it'd be a good idea to get a Shell cashback credit card thing, 3% on all petrol purchases from Shell.

Had it 4 months and it's now been cut up, paid off and cancelled.

Customer service isn't important to companies anymore. When I ring up and fail "security" because i said my date of birth was september the 2nd instead of 2nd of september, i get understandably a bit pissed off. This, along with st loads more issues, such as them not taking the monthly direct debit out in full every month, then taking it out at random times of the month every month, means I no longer have the card and I've gone back to using my debit card for all purchases.

Why is nothing simple anymore

I like spelling where we live. My fab was telling the Norwich Union lady we lived near Norwich, but she couldn't spell that either. Funny enough, we are binning all our NU policies.

I once had a 3 phone. They use Indian call centres.

I'd honestly rather cover my c0ck in honey and stick it into an anthill before I'd have anything to do with their Mumbai call centre again.

I actually went out and got hammered in celebration the day that contract ended.

The worst example I know of is Orange broadband. Utterly dreadful service! it is impossible to speak to anyone in the UK about broadband. I ended up making a formal complaint after i had no service for 6 weeks and they failed to diagnose the problem. My gripes were that you were charged 50p a min for am Idian based tech support service that you only had to use if there was a problem with the broadband, i.e. Orage cocking up! I made sure I got all call costs refunded! I ended up getting the 18month contract suspended after a rather 'passionte' complaint!

My mum tried to cancel a subscription to Setanta Sports several months ago, their call centre is based in Ireland I believe.

She pays the charge off her credit card, but the account is in my brothers name (who lives in the US now). When she asked to have it canceled they kept telling her they couldn't cancel it without his permission. Eventually she asked for a supervisor at which point the gentleman on the other end of the phone hung up on her.

I sent a complaint email to them and their reply was a generic promotional email telling me about upcomming offers.

Setanta Sports - Ineptitude is their middle name.

The problem is with many large British companies that hire call-centre people without authority to do much, most of them happen to be Indian in India. (as they are much cheaper).

I rang national rail enquiries a while back to ask about trains from Cardiff to Paddington, I was told I needed my passport for border checks frown

Cheaper...but they've lost me as a customer, and I'm guessing they've lost thousands of other customers for the same reason. So wouldn't they have made the money back? Maybe not, I don't run a large business smile

Pay more, get better service.
Pay less, get worse service.

Simple.

Btw, do you know that most companies route their more profitable customers to better call centres and less so to the cheaper call centres? So for the chap who doesn't like the '3' call centre, he may well find that if he spends £200 a month on his bill, the callcentre he uses miraculously changes. (Or not - I know nothing about 3!)

When I see a thread title like this I can't help but think of Nelson Eddy or Jeanette McDonald (or Slim Whitman - for the ever so slightly less geriatric amongst us).

I've decided to play my trump card and beat you all with the absolute fecking HORROR that is BT. Honestly, you're probably better off just hanging yourself from the landing light fixture than trying to communicate with those hopeless, dribbling cretinsirked

Wasn't there a website that listed companies that use Indian call centres, and those that use UK based?

Too lazy to search myself...

  • in a heavy Indian accent
Good evening, my name is William. How can i help?

  • cue rolling of eyes & biting tongue to say your name is NOT William, if anything it's more likely to be Raj you numpty, quit the games!
But of course, I'm too polite for that so instead I say

"Evening William! How's life?!"

The best was when I spoke to a woman last week called "James" I said sorry what was your name, she told me again James, she even spelt it for me as i thought she may have been pretending her name was Jane, but no...definitely James

I am with Orange and spend a lot with them.

About a year ago I was sent a letter saying I was now with premier service (or something like that)

Now if I have a problem they do sort it out quickly in the UK.

So previous poster was correct in that some companies do have a 2 tier call centre system.

I have had a lot of discussions with BT broadband call centres in India but one day was miraculously connected to a UK centre and got immediate and full satisfaction. Great I thought but went back to some polite bloke in India next time I called.

Maybe I'm not spending enough !!
