Stop it. Stop it at once.
Utterly moronic thing to say.
WHy does anyone type this? What is the thought process?

"oooooo-this thread might get locked, but if I'm really quick I can post IBTL and everyone will think I am hilarious-and people will accept me because I have typed it. People from all over the globe will look upon my post and say to each other "fking hell-did you see what that clever bd managed to do before that thread got locked"- even though almost three million people have done it before me this very day"

SO, why? What would make someone bother to type that? WHat are they hoping will happen?

Dude - you forgot to end the post with "Anyone who responds with an 'IBTL' isn't fit to wipe the arse of someone who genuinely writes 'IBTL'" or similar

There are countless amounts of 'moronic' things people post on pretty much any/every topic that you just have to scan over to get to the point of the actual topic.

I mean, when I started typing this there were no reponses to your post; I bet there are at least 2 people who have alreday written IBTL above me!! What for??

"In Before The Lock" - used to reply to a thread which obviously has a limited life.

IBTL means "this thread, in my opinion, contains posts which contravene the terms and conditions of the site, and may therefore result in moderator intervention".

It's not a competition, it's a simple opinion, that's all. Tedious or not.

It stands for 'in before the lock'.
So a person when typing this hateful thing, is declaring to the world that he managed to do a post on a thread that may or may not get locked.
Extraordinary behaviour.

Only of benefit if the mods leave the locked thread on display, surely?

A very good way to look at it; although I don't agree that it is always used in this way. It is usually written by the 'post wes' to gain a laugh!!
