Dual Nationality

I am entitled to an Australian passport, as well as the British one I already have. I am thinking of getting one and having dual nationality, but I am not sure if there are any downsides to this (apart from the costs of two passports). Does anyone have any experience in this area?

What with this being The P&P obviously I only want the Australian passport so I can make a quick exit when Chairman Brown sends his troops in against those protesting for a different economic system with fatal consequences.

I have put this in The Lounge because it didn't seem to quite fit in any of the other categories.

Having as many passports as you can is always good, you can always get rid of one.

That was my first thought - a ticket out. Check your suitcase before leaving; you might find several of us stowing away in it.

Get one before they make it illegal to have two.

For instance you can't have dual nationality in the US I believe (could be wrong)

i've got SA nationality, and UK nationality

deffo get it if you can, gives you opporutinites to work in the other country without visa or travel without complications. its made life alot easier for me when i go back to SA to see all my family etc.

wouldnt say there are any downsides to having dual nationality!

Nope, I've got US and Irish citizenships and it isn't a problem.



Though the declaration I signed said something about renouncing all foreign allegiances...

I got a US and a UK one.

Born in the US, parents are British.


I enter and leave either country using either passport, it doesnt make a difference. Although the US customs were getting pissy with me when i entered on my US passport and tried to use my UK passport to take a trip to the carribean. Apparenlty they dont recognise dual nationality. If anyone asks what nationality you are, just tell them the country you are in at the time!

I've got Irish and British, I don't know if it made anything easier when working in the two coutries, I've always had dual.

Good shout. Best get it rolling, though. At least here in the US, getting residency via siblings can take some time.

My daughter has dual British & German nationality. Has never caused any problems.
