That she can feck right off.

The house between her mother and sister has come up for sale and she has come home all excited, jumping up and down and extolling the virtues of living there.

Even though I have had numerous falling outs with her mother and it was agreed I would only piss on her were she on fire if I magically discovered my urine had changed to turpentine.

As you can imagine I have expressed my displeasure at the suggestion of moving there and listed the reasons why I would not like to live next to her mother only for those reasons to be brushed aside with promises of “oh it will be ok”

Sodding bank holidays, I can see this being a looooong weekend with lots of nagging.

Burn new house down. Job done.

ETA: on a serious note, use your superior male intellect to convince her that due to the recession / credit crunch it'll be hard to remortgage and you'll end up with loads of negative equity, blah blah blah.

Change of tact.

Flirt with both mother and sister to the extent that you are banned from seeing them. Job done.

^^^ definately a good idea. If the MIL is still of breeding age then send one her way and move in next door.

You'll love it, you really will.

Semi-serious answer:

Put your foot down immediately. Don't even allow the possibility of this happening. No if's, but's or maybe's. If you leave the slightest hint that it might be ok then she will NEVER get off your case.

Mr Grumpy and me live 5 doors from my mum and 7 doors from my sister. He probably gets on better with my mum than I do. Certainly she thinks more of him than me rolleyes

Neither of them are in our face (I would hate this too) and it comes in very handy for borrowing stuff (including cars) and lifts. My mum's over 80 and lives on her own.

For us it works but I can see that for you it could signal the end of your relationship.

There is a lot to be learnt from Everybody Loves Raymond here, there is even an episode dedicated to how far away you should live from parents.

and if you give in that's where you'll end up living. In the shed. 24/7. Because either her sister, or mother, or both will be round constantly.

Find a fabulous pub (or even better, strip bar / lapdancing club!) in the near vacinity of proposed move, then tell wife how marvelous it will be to move, as said venue is within staggering distance of new home, frequented by ALL your mates who she dislikes, the barmaids are absolutely gorgoeus, and the place has an extended licence. Problem may be quickly resolved! hehe
