Here's a few pics to get us started.

Polar bears are wonderful creatures. cloud9

I sponsored a Polar bear a few years ago at Edinburgh Zoo. It wasn't doing a sponsored swim/run/half marathon or anything like that, I just wanted to contribute to it's upkeep (t'was a bit of a greedy bugger).

I'd love to do something like the Top Gear polar challenge, or visit Alaska to see them in their natural habitat, but as yet, not had the opportunity. grumpy

You'd better be quick about it, before their natural habitat disappears wink

What a wa***r.

IF they are still being hunted then they can't be endangered can they?

Anyways, Polar Bears are large, mean feckers... Not cuddly, a bit like most other bears really....

Taken near Churchill, Manitoba. If you ever get the chance to go in October/November do it, there are bears all around waiting for the Hudson Bay to freeze. More at:

Large mean feckers. yes

Ordinarily I am highly concerned with preserving biodiversity etc

In the case of Polar Bears, Alligators and Crocodiles I couldn't give a st. These species see man as food.

Don't get me wrong, I think we should conserve them, same as all other species on earth (except for politicians which ought to be hunted to extinction).

Just they are mean. Still beautiful, stunning to see and I suspect awesome to see in their natural habitat.

I'm known to several friends as 'the polar bear'; due, I guess, to some failed function which means I tend not to suffer in the cold. I can feel that it's cold, but it in no way troubles me.

Here's my photographic contribution; some shots I took of the bears in Berlin Zoo.

Fantastic shots V8 biggrin Shame they were in a zoo - you'd have a great story there wink

They are magnificent creatures biggrin But like all bears, dangerous and should be treated with respect.

Great pictures!

I think I recall reading that polar bears are unique, in that they're the only animal that considers humans a part of their diet? As in, crocs and lions may eat a human if they're cornered or starving - but polar bears will kill and eat us as standard.
