Looking for barrels - wood and stainless for a friend. Can anyone recommend where from / what etc etc.

He's a retired Italian and I'm planning to surprise him with ageing and storage barrels.

Any advice appreciated.

I did have a debate with myself before posting. The intended use is for wine making and storage. Not about wine, butt... <--- wink

Not garden furniture and not about consumption.

small local breweries may be able to help, but i'm fairly sure that wooden barrels used in wine making tend to be chosen for the characteristics they add to the wine, what sort of wine will he be making?
here or here

Personally I would go for Oak barrels over others.

See if I can find anything online for you.

Re: Artisan jobbie - 10 litres is for a bar top - my friend has about 20-30 15-litre demijohns.

Re: LMGTFY - you obviously didn't read the 'recommend' part of the post - but thanks for trying.

Thanks, Elster...

Antonio did turn his nose up a little at the mention of an old whisky keg. There seem to be plenty of water butts for sale - can they be utilised?

This guy has been making great wine for years - at his original home in Amalfi but mostly at his place in North London... He has his ways so the barrel would have to be a good one. During a chat with him, he did mention that many of his mates back home are using stainless and that he might be interested in one of those.

I'd like to find him a decent wooden one though.

Sorry I can only recommend the ones in France.

They are only cheap, not much will be online. Ideally you would just call someone at a vineyard near you and ask. Or ask at the marie if someone had a spare one.

Do you want me to tell you of ones available in Gers?

Cheap + recommended sounds great... even worth paying for the shipping over if it means we get a barrel that he'll love.
Probably better to go for two (as long as we're looking at 45-ish gallon size).
