What the f
k is up at the moment with the f
king dumb
f
king idiot British press.
Granted, I do read the Daily Wail, but I also read The Sunday Times. And, I swear to f
king Lucifer himself, the next time there is some sort of scandal and it is referred to as Whatever-the-f
k-is-scandalous-this-weekendGate I am going to personally go to Fleet Street and find some terrorists to start the Explosiongate scandal that will rock Middle Britain to it's f
king core.
Why is the suffix "gate" being added to everything at the f
king moment? Watergate was what, 35 odd years ago? And, granted as a tender lad of just 23, I have not been reading the paper all that long (around 8 years in total), but I have only noticed this lazy arsed,
-mouth journalism being used in this past year or so.
To highlight a f
king point or two, here are a couple of the following Gates that can't be opened but can be read about:
Everyones f
king favourite of recent months - Sachsgate
Someones hard-on of recent months - Porngate/Pornogate (depending on publication)
There are many f
king more, but I have got that red mist thinking about all this that is prohibiting me from remembering any of the
s. I just hope Winky Mcf
knut gets caught doing something on, or near, a gate. Even the British press aren't the biggest t
ts in the world that would refer to a scandal as "Gate-gate", I'd like to see if any of them have an original thought in their cretinous minds.

Can anyone explain the meaning of the word 'gate' when used in this context? I've looked it up but to no avail.
Just a spin-off of the Watergate scandal, which makes no sense because "Watergate" was the name of the building, so god knows why the suffix 'gate' is being added onto everything.Agree with the OP though, bloody irritating.

It's to do with the Watergate scandal. Mitchell and Web done a sketch on this very subject recently, one arguing it should be called Watergategate.
From Wikipedia 'The Watergate scandal left such an impression on the national and international consciousness that many scandals since then have been labeled with the suffix "-gate".'

I beleive they are trying to find something simple to 'click' with what they assume the average moron will feels familiar with. A catch phrase as it were.

They are begging, screaming, ranting and raving because Gordie won't apologise for the actions of one of his cohorts, sending stupid e mails, and because he won't apologise for f
king up the economy. Who gives a flying fvck whether he apologises or not???????????????????
Does it change anything???????????
Does it make anything better????????????????
He already admits he did wrong, admits he acted like a tvvat, so what the fvck will an apology do to change anything????????????????????????

The end of 1999 was NOT the end of the millennium, FOR FVCKS SAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are 2000 years in two millennia, so let's get to the end of the 2000th year before you start celebrating, you fvcktards!
