Just got home to find the world's largest spider on our ceiling. We live in Dubai. The missus is freaked, and if I'm honest, so am I - I have no idea if it's poisonous and no idea how to catch/kill it. I'm not accurate with a broom, we don't have a hoover - any ideas?!

And yes, I know I'm a pussy...

Don't kill it, hasn't done you any harm.

How big is it then?

The spider is between me and my camera. Roughly the size of an adult male's handspan... It's brown and black.

Yet! Hasn't done him any harm yet.

Just wait till it bites him and his leg falls off

Not that small then frown
I'd sell up and move out, I wonder where she laid her eggs...

It is indeed a sign of how things have changed.

By now, we would have had at least two suggestions, one of which would cause rather more damage than required, and the other would require you to get close enough to identify the thing's face.

Seriously though, does it have any red or green patches on it?

Pics man pics!

How can we offer advice unless we known just how much peril you are actually in.

The answer is MX-5.

Give the spider one and let it drive off in to the desert.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh, what the hell is that motherfker?

OP, if it is anything like that I wouldn't go with the aerosol and lighter technique as I think fire would merely anger that thing. Jesus!

And yes, I am a big poof when it comes to our eight-legged enemies.
