MRI post mortems for Jews and Muslims.

But who's paying (assuming it costs more than a bloke cutting up a body and poking about).

I thought this was a secular country. How odd.

did you not read it?

it states that familes pay if they want it. seems sensible enough...in fact, i'd be surprised if (in years to come) it's not the norm.

edit - beaten to it!

You scanned through an article, saw it had the word Muslim or Jew in it and thought to quickly post it on PH to try and provoke a response.

err, no.

I skim read it.
Then skim read it again.
Surprised I couldn't see the cost of an MRI scan mentioned.
Sipped my tea.
Answered a phone call.
Did a search to see if someone else had already posted on the topic.
Noted no posts already in the new, fragmented fora system.
Sipped tea again.
Wrote post.
Answered call.

Sounds like this is something EVERYONE should be offered, regardless of religion.

Why? It's an inefficient way of doing it. No one should be offered it.

Well, if someone would rather not have their loved cut dissected then why not let them pay for it?

I guess that depends on why the PM is being done. If it's to establish the cause of death for society's benefit and to check there's no foul play then the family's squeamishness shouldn't come into it. An MRI won't pick up the signs of poisoning for example.

From the article:

Times said:
The area has a large Jewish and Muslim community, but the scan is available to people of all faiths.
and

Times said:
The 3D scans, like those used on pregnant women, cost £500, with subsequent scans costing £350 each. Families who opt for them are asked to foot the bill.
and

Times said:
However, the Ministry made clear that because an MRI scan may not be the appropriate means to determining a cause of death in every case, the coroner will be required to make the decision on a case by case basis.
Provided that those principles are adhered to, I have no problem with this.

Ohhhh so its the Coroner who gets to chose is it, its not a free choice for everyone. I can't believe the discriminatory nature of this. Jeezus. FFS.
