Was on an overcrowded South West train this morning and someone said that you were able to claim a ticket refund if the train was overcrowded - this being dependent on whether you were able to read a tabloid sized newspaper without it touching someone else. Have I stumbled across a legendary storyteller, or is this true?

Surely train users read broadsheets, I thought tabloid readers were forced to take the bus, oh how standards have dropped.

I had a choice of FT or Autocar and didn't have space for either!

My understanding is that there is an ancient law allowing you as a FT reader to locate a tabloid reader on said train and demand his seat, by law he cannot refuse you as he is clearly a peasant.

Certainly on the trains I use "You pay for the journey, not the seat" (As told to me by a drone), you can however sit in 1st class if you catch pregnancy, you have to be a woman though.

You see i saw this coming.
it was a bubble that was bound to burst.
Now if only i hadn't bought that ticket at 7.30am! Should have bought it last thursday rather than relieving myself over the FT.
[shameless copy and paste from random article]

notices that rushed graph is wrong! d'oh!

I cannot believe this is true. You aren't even guaranteed the seat that you paid for. Or good service. Or edible food. Or a toilet.

I find it hard to believe that amidst the massive stitch up that are their Terms and Conditions that you have somehow retained a right.

If the toilet is not working on the train then they are obliged to stop and wait at the next platform while you use the conveniences there.

I think you would be public enemy No.1 if you stopped for a No.1 and kept everyone waiting. Still, it could be worse for your fellow travellers

rofl That's insane! Can't see how it ruined her whole holiday though, unless she never bathed and only took the clothes she was wearing..

"U.S. Attorney Edward Kubo Jr. said the woman reported that not only was her entire vacation ruined, but she continues to suffer emotionally from the incident. "
Felt sorry for her up until that point.

I assume Tokyo. I've experienced this personally. It's only on some lines, but when it's bad it's bad....

When working a 14 hour day, sometimes a two hour drive at both ends simply doesn't appeal. I ensure I have a seat booked, and that seat is near the bar.
