The best thing for the job is one of Decathlon's easy up dome tents. Throw then in the air and they self erect. Weather proof enough for your needs. Best of all, you can get one for under £50.

ETA I have this one. http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/2-seconds-iii-352892... Fits two with ease and a labrador and rucksacks

They have a good offer on right now where you get decent free sleeping bags with Vango tents which are good.

I'm still trying to find a campsite that allows fires which isn't run by ex concentration camp guards.

If you know of any or a farmer willing to let me build a fire in a field and sit there till the early hours watching the stars with a drop of vino let me know.

There is a campsite finder website where you can set campfires allowed as one of the criteria. I'll have a look for it.

Yeah I have seen them, unfortunatly most of the sites when they say a fire they mean a candle, they are also quite heavily populated.

I'm looking for solitude but it's very hard to find.

We found this campsite in the shadow of Croagh Patrick when we went to Ireland last summer. It was essentially a couple of fields behind the guy's house, he didn't mind campfires - in fact he even gave us a bag of peat/old wood and some fire starters to set it up!

Here are some campsites in the UK which allow campfires - http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/articles/view.asp?id=4

I imagine weight won't be too much of an issue then as you'll be driving to your spot?

I would look at something like this - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vango-Icarus-400-4-Berth-Fam...
